Police track biker gangs in Western North Carolina
ASHEVILLE — Police say they are monitoring motorcycle gang activity in Western North Carolina, highlighted by the arrests of two city men named in a federal indictment that describes an elaborate and violent criminal enterprise.

Anyone who has ever done much camping will tell you that like any other activity there are certain "tools of the trade" that one must have in order to have a successful trip. After all, a chef wouldn't attempt to prepare a gourmet meal without a professional set of knives, utensils, pans, etc. One of the most essential of these "tools" is the pocket knife. Below is my list of the top 5 best uses for your pocket knife while camping this summer.

1. Survival: Your knife could save your life. Survivalists, military personnel, and boy scouts alike all preach the many uses of your pocket knife in survival situations. Whether cutting pine bows and rope to build a shelter or fending off a wild animal your #1 survival tool is your knife. Keep it with you at all times, keep it clean and in good repair and it will take care of you when you need it most.

2. Cleaning Fish: One of the best things about camping is the abundance of great fishing. Whether you're by a river or lake, fishing is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend your day. The best part of fishing is getting to eat your results at the end of the day. Your knife will come in handy when it's time to clean your days catch.

3. Marshmallow Sticks: Since I was a small child I can remember my favorite part of camping... toasting marshmallows! It is a long tradition to find and make your own marshmallow stick to use throughout the camping trip. You will need a good pocket knife to cut your stick and sharpen the end.

4. Whittling: One of my favorite pastimes while camping is the time honored tradition of whittling. All you need is a good piece of wood and your favorite knife and you're on your way. See what kind of art is hiding within the nearest stump... who knows, there might be a whistle in there

5. Fixing Everything: I personally think of my pocket knife as the duct tape of tools. You can use it to fix just about anything. I've used mine as a screwdriver, hammer or can opener countless times. Last summer the pump handle on our camper sink broke and I was able to fashion a new one out of wood using my camping knife.

Summer is right around the corner and the camping season is upon us. I can't wait to get into the great outdoors and spend those warm nights under the stars telling ghost stories and roasting marshmallows. I wouldn't think of heading out without my trusty pocket knife; it is, after all, a tool of many, many uses.

Old Scabbard Fairbairn

SUBSTANCE USE OR ABUSE PROBLEMS and a whole raft of self-control issues, and the person's fight with them, are characterized by a cyclic phenomenon: the continual 'saying goodbye to those "old" friends'--friends, mind you, that cling hard to the person trying to escape them. This describes anything from a bad habit taken hold to dependency to full-strength addiction. Why do I know? I've been in the cycle of saying goodbye to some old friends--I've done it dozens of times. This would be an outrageously conservative statement. Yet, saying goodbye defeats the purpose--if there is a problem of dependence or addiction it's a waste of time rationalizing with a "goodbye" to the substance...

Knife Near

Jailed for drunken knife attack on former partner A MAN who launched a drunken knifepoint assault on his estranged partner in her home was yesterday jailed for ten years. Mumbai is the financial capital of India. Originally called Bombay for hundreds of years the name was changed by the erstwhile Shiv Sena -BJP government during their time in power to Mumbai during the fag end of the last century. Perhaps this was the only acheivement of these Hindu parties who were so intent on re- christening new names, that they forgot that just a hundred kilometers out of Mumbai a large population of tribals were living in abject poverty. I mention about these Hindu parties only to stress the lopsided...

Fighting Trench

By Aidan Foster-Carter Succession is the Achilles' heel of dictatorships, for obvious reasons. In extreme cases, such as North Korea, even contemplating the mortality of the leader is seen as lese-majeste, as if this somehow threatens the quasi-monarch's vaunted omnipotence and implicit immortality. 7 Tips for Fighting Fairly in MarriageFighting fairly is one of the most important skills you can learn in order to keep your marriage healthy and strong. While it may first seem that fighting only happens in "bad" marriages, fighting actually happens in all marriages. Crude Theater Trench

Betting on Crude Oil to FallThe continued weakness in the Oil markets is playing havoc across the commodity exporting nations. Russia’s recent emergency measures have confirmed the problems.

With memories of Russia’s effective wiping out of state debt back in 1998 very much to the fore, the chances of anyone coming to their aid is slim. The same can be said for Venezuela, Argentina, Iran etc.

Crude Oil is now pushing to a two year low and, if anything, the outlook looks ever more painful.

Not only this but Airlines and others who hedged their fuel costs earlier this year at $100, $120 per barrel or even higher will now be asked for cash margin on these...
