Can you get military training without going to war?

such as how to fight a man with a knife, or how to enjoy pain, kind of like an insane bootcamp. basically become a soldier but not fight in iraq or afghanistan? doesn't have to be free or even officially army related. any thoughts?

I'll have to object to the use of POG, by one poster, although REMF is a fairly appropriate term. When marines get in trouble they call on POGS to save their @sses. In my war, some marines would say they would rather walk back than fly with us. That's how dangerous it was for air crew POGS in Vietnam. We had the highest casualty rate of anyone who served there. Of course, the grunts never refused a ride when we came to bring them out of a zone. Some of them would say they would rather walk because it was too dangerous to ride with us but they always took the lift. So, you can stop your childish referrals to POGS. We were the ones who went into combat every day with a higher casualty rate than infantry. We were the ones marines called on when they needed air support. We took them into combat, supported them, took their dead and wounded out, saw them die in our arms, and took the live ones out. If you think a marine would refer to an air crew as POGs, it's only because you are some ignorant, young piece of sh!t not worthy of being called a marine.

Yes, you can learn how to fight with a knife, how to enjoy pain, and learn martial arts without ever seeing combat. All marines are taught these things and only half of them ever see combat. Half of the marines in WWII never left the states. Half of the marines during Vietnam never served in combat.

You can take your chances. From what I saw in your question, you don't have what it takes to be a US Marine. I would push the people who called marines POGs out of my helo at the first opportunity if they became one. We fight together and a marine on the ground knows how important his support from artillery and air support is. We are his lifeline.

For Life is a beautiful thing, Marines don't wear combat patches. You never saw one on a marine, E-7 or otherwise. That's part of what makes the Corps different. We don't wear silly ropes to indicate we are infantry, we are all infantry. We don't have a CIB and we don't wear a patch telling what unit we were in when we were in combat.

We keep it simple. There are some Recon badges, pilot wings, and air crew badges. Overall we are all marines who do our jobs. We don't need some mama's boy decoration to say we have been in combat.

Knife Kabar

what is the best kind/brand of knife to get my husband as a gift? I would like to get my husband, who is shortly joining the RAF, a nice knife for our anniversary coming up. Not a little pocketknife, not a huge f**k-off machete, either, but a good quality, mid price range hunting or military knife....any ideas? Which company makes the best quality? Thanks! In the UK you have some great knife makers, like Farid. They are as you Brits say 'dear', but your husband will be the envy of the RAF when he shows what his loving wife gave him. He will treasure it a lifetime. Also, thanks to your husband and yourself for your service to not only your country but to freedom worldwide. ...

Mother died in Yr 2002 in her sleep in her house (as she wanted it to be) one early April Morning after having been served a cup of Vegetable Soup, by her Caregiver, while sitting upright in her bed and made to lie down again. Shortly thereafter, she must have simply dosed off to death - probably, just a few seconds before she could have even seen me visit her that morning. As I was shocked to see her expressionless face while I quickly embraced her tightly in my arms, I still heard her gasp her last breath-of-life. She was 84 yrs old. Mother lived a very much "challenged life". This is her story. As a growing-up bright young provincial girl making good grades in her Elementary and...

"RG58" or radio guide 58 was initially a requirement utilized by militaries to help classify diverse cables, although since then, it has turned out to be obsolete through the years due to lack of use. The cable is frequently utilized to transport signals in different laboratories, with the utilization of BNC connectors, which are commonly located on some of the device test found in the laboratories. These so called cables were once utilized in thin Ethernet connections, although are now fundamentally replaced by Cat5e and Cat5 cables and WiFi internet devices. The cable could as well be utilized for fairly high frequencies but the signal itself would depend a lot on the used frequency....
