College can be a fun-filled adventure, but at the same time can be quite overwhelming. All of the new responsibilities can sometimes be a stressful transition. Laundry at a home can be challenging, so it can definitely be a handful in college too. The following tips are sure to provide some comfort in learning how to manage dirty clothes and keep them clean.

• Own a laundry basket. Keeping soiled clothes separated from other items is key to organization and complimentary to a laundry routine. Make it a habit to always put dirty clothes into the basket so that they do not pile up in another area of the living quarters.

• Have a wash day. Developing a routine as to when clothes will be washed will insure that you always have something clean. Find one day in the week that is low key and make that wash day. It is often a good idea to have a study day and wash day intertwined with each other.

• Have a limited amount of clothes. If you own lots of clothes, you may not need to wash as often. Lots of clothes can be an advantage, but there is a disadvantage too. If you don't wash often, clothes may pile up.

• Keep a supply of washing materials. There is nothing like getting to the washing machine and realizing there is no detergent or even running out while washing. Detergent, fabric softener, fabric sheets, and stain remover are regular supplies that should get basic washing done. Make sure that when you are getting low on these items, you buy more.

Extra Tips

• Fresh out the dryer: Fold clothes immediately after the dryer has finished for a less wrinkled appearance.

• Hot or cold water: Dark colors should be washed in cold water and light colors in hot.

• To bleach or not to bleach: Bleach should be used by very experienced washers. If used the washing machine should be rinsed after the load of clothes using bleach is done.

• Stains: With a favorite stain remover in general, soak stains with the product and then wash. (Directions should also be read before product use).
