Sexy, Single and Supporting the Cause
By Christina Attardo

Going once… going twice… ladies, they’re all gone!

Over 40 bachelors from Hoboken and New York City stepped up on the auction block last week for an exciting evening of bidding on boys and, more importantly, raising over $4500 for the American Cancer Society.

Texas Arizona was overflowing with eligible men – and women with credit cards looking to scoop them up. As the men shyly posed and unabashedly masqueraded, excerpts from their Bachelors Bios were read to entice the audience into taking out their wallets – which many ladies did to the tune of $100 and more!

Last year’s highest earning bachelor, Mike Linn, tied for the honor this year with Bob Cento, with both gentlemen going for a whopping $320 each. John Buckley, a former Cosmopolitan Bachelor of the Year, was close behind at $300. Once again, several generous bachelors matched their winning bids.

In an unexpected twist, after the Bachelors were all auctioned off, Fundraising Committee Chairperson Keira Kordowski of the ACS’s Relay For Life opened up the floor to the women. Several brave ladies took to the stage impromptu, raising additional funds and keeping the crowd going.

Bidders were also encouraged by a tale of true love, as Kordowski introduced a couple who began dating after Brooks bought John at last year’s auction. Saving lives and making connections… it’s what the Bachelor Auction was made for!

As I busied myself collecting funds from the bidders, my spy on the floor, Jen*, reported the following: "Though all of the bachelors had unique differences that set one apart from the next, it was obvious that the women were ready to bid.  Hiding behind paddles (and the fact that this 'was for a good cause'), the ladies were ready to turn the tables and objectify men in the most titillating experience ever to be tied to Relay for Life.

"I have to say I had my eyes on #18.  I checked him off in my head after reading through the booklet of bios and when he stood on the box just five feet away from where I was, I couldn't help but stare," she continues. "Just as I was about to raise my paddle... SOLD!  He was gone and I was left with the reminder that this was all for a good cause.... Maybe next year."

All funds raised, as well as additional donations by host venue Texas Arizona, will go toward Hoboken’s Relay For Life on May 17th at Pier A. Realhoboken.com will provide further details as the event draws near. In the meantime, visit www.cancer.org/relay to create a virtual team, join as an individual or donate online.

* If #18 is out there, Jen is a cute, funny, intelligent single gal who just turned 30, enjoys a good bottle of wine, good conversation, and long walks on the beach.
