Eickhorn Early Variation

When I was growing up my Mother often used this old adage in a vein attempt to get me up early in the morning. I had not the slightest idea what it meant and neither was I interested in the waking and eating habits of the local wild life. In later years it stood me in good stead and none more so than in the current economic crisis.

Like me, you may not be interested in worms or what time the birds yawn and fall off their perches but you do want to increase your client base and remain in business throughout the recession. You can however do better than just survive the recession. There are businesses who will thrive specifically as a result of it, as their competitors stop marketing and reduce hours in a bid to cut costs.

This is a false economy, marketing is not a luxury, it is imperative to continued growth. In every financial crisis, there are winners and there are losers. The winners or 'early birds' will be up with the lark and at work before the rest of the staff have had chance to realise that Brad Pitt/Michele Pfeiffer was just a dream, much less decide what to have for breakfast. They will be the first in on Monday mornings and the last to leave on Friday evening, seizing every opportunity for growth.

Your prospective clients may be early birds too, and are likely to be in on on the beginning of the week to collate, organize and delegate, so catch the worm while it is available. Friday are good too as many decision makers may be in the office in order to conclude business matters and tie loose ends in preparation for the following weeks business.

It makes sense to market every day of the working week because, even if the decision maker is not available, an experienced telemarketer will use the opportunity to gather information and build a rapport with the receptionist or secretary. This has the effect of warming your potential client to the idea of your product or service. When contact is made with the decision maker, your company is already a familiar name and the benefits of your service or product established.

It stands to reason that the most profitable way to deal with the recession is to be available when your competitors are not. This brings us to the matter of targeting prospective clients. Monday morning heralds the beginning of the business week and Friday evening signals the close of business.

The recession is likely to force, more and more business owners and decision makers to be available for longer periods due to compelling financial targets and pressure from their competitors. Businesses wishing to see the recession through will be pro-active in marketing their product at every opportunity, Monday to Friday. Telemarketing is a valuable and cost effective tool enabling your message to reach the right person every day of the week. Will you be the early bird catching the worm before it has chance to go elsewhere or will you leave that to your competitors.
