It was a match that pitted the largest nation at the World Cup (size and population) against the smallest. In one of the more exciting draws of the World Cup, the USA came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Slovenia. The match had a bit of everything in it - exciting play, goals and controversy. USA needed to avoid defeat in this game to have a realistic chance of going through. A win over the USA would help the Slovenians to advance. Much was at stake for the match and the score line and tempo of the game reflected that.
The match started with some tension as the Slovenians took exception to a challenge on Ljubijankic by Fulham striker Clint Dempsey as early as the second minute. The referee did not caution Dempsey, as it appeared accidental, but a small confrontation ensued. In the 13th minute, Slovenia went ahead when Valter Birsa picked up the ball some 25 yards from goal and unleashed a long-range effort that beat Tim Howard, who barely even moved.
The Americans played with increasing urgency, although they failed to make any inroads. Somewhat against the run of play, Slovenia got their second goal through Ljubijankic, who was just onside and ran into the penalty area to slot the ball past Tim Howard. The Americans entered halftime 2-0 down, with their chances of advancing looking very bleak if they remained on the wrong end of the score.
US coach Bob Bradley made two changes at halftime, bringing on Maurice Edu and Benny Feilhaber on for Torres and Findley. The US started the second half brightly and scored in the 48th minute as Landon Donovan drove the ball into the roof of the net at an acute angle on the goalkeeper's left. Samir Handanovic seemed more concerned about protecting his face from the shot and took his eyes off the ball.
Slovenia relied on a counter-attack strategy as the half went on, while the Americans kept pressing for a goal. A couple minutes after Bob Bradley substituted a defender for an attacking player, Michael Bradley poked the equalizer past Handanovic to make the last ten minutes of the game even more exciting. In the 85th minute, off an American free kick, Maurice Edu got the ball in the back of the net for the US, but Malian referee Koman Coulibaly disallowed the goal for mysterious reasons. That moment was another talking point in this match and even when the referee blew off the game, the Americans - particularly Jozy Altidore - were still protesting.
The game was a very entertaining one with ten shots on target and end-to-end action. The draw leaves the US needing a win against Algeria. Group C was interestingly poised as three teams could end on five points. Once the US beats Algeria by at least two goals, they would be assured of qualification for the second round.

Swiss Knives Express offers a free knife if you send in a Swiss Army knife story that gets published or used on their website. Here are some of the interesting stories and uses that people have for Swiss Army knives. Story 1 - R. Reyes from Keller, TX I was raised in a non-knife family. The only knives in the house were kitchen knives and they were incredibly dull. Both of my parents were raised the same way. Neither one had a knife phobia, but they were wary of knives. So, when I was 13, I went to the local Target. I then bought a Victorinox Spartan knife and loved it. My dad, on the other hand, didn't. After a long discussion, my mother convinced my dad to let me keep it. By the...

Read More ...Several people may assume that just because their cars are old, they automatically qualify to be characterized as vintage. While old age is indeed a significant characteristic, it is important to note that this is not the only determinant since old cars can also fall under the category of classic or antique. It is for this reason that most people may wonder how they can determine whether their cars can be termed as vintage or not? One can confidently consider his/her car vintage if it was built between the start of 1919 and the end of 1930, commonly referred to as the vintage period by most specialists in the automotive world. Most vintage cars are said to have been manufactured after...
