This classic message from the 1950s was written by Oral Roberts when he was asked the following question in a letter.

Dear Brother Roberts:
I have a special request and you’re just the man to fill my request. I am sure it would be the request of hundreds of thousands. Won’t you tell us what manner of man Jesus is?

My Dad's response to the question:

First, Jesus Christ is the great lover of the souls, minds, and bodies of men.

The Bible says that Jesus loved us before we loved Him. Before we ever knew that He existed, He loved us (Ephesians 1:4). He poured out His own lifeblood to prove that He is the great lover of our souls (John 3:16-17). To prove His love for our bodies, He took upon Himself our sickness and disease (Matthew 8:17).

Second, Jesus Christ is the great rewarder, not the withholder, of blessings.

What does Scripture say? Without faith it is impossible to please him: for…he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6 KJV). Jesus is the giver of blessings. His personal rewards are not given indiscriminately. If you want His personal reward, you must seek Him in a personal manner, because His rewards come to those who diligently seek Him.

Third, Christ is all power—not just a fraction of it—power such as we have never dreamed of.

Jesus said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18 KJV). And He is willing to use all this power when necessary, upon the condition that we believe Him with our faith, love Him with our hearts, and conform our lives to His will.

I personally know something about this great power of God. I see Christ’s power change people’s lives, lifting them from the lowest hell to the highest heaven, from the deepest sorrow to the brightest joy. I see His power destroying sickness and disease, making bodies whole and minds strong and sound. I see God’s power conquering fear in people’s lives, resolving frustrations, and giving peace of soul and peace of mind. Yes, I know that Christ is all power, not just a fraction of it.

I was sick unto death with tuberculosis, and nothing could change my sickness—nothing but the power of God. The power of God did for me in the fraction of a second what earthly power had not been able to do.

Fourth, He is the mighty builder and has gone to prepare a place for us.

The Carpenter of Nazareth is now the eternal builder. The hands that held the hammer…that built the yoke for oxen…that constructed houses in the city of Nazareth…are now the hands of the eternal builder.

I wish to point out that Christ the eternal builder is building a specific and personal place for those who love and serve Him. He is building a mansion for each of His loving and faithful children (John 14:2).

Fifth, Christ is the great captain, the captain of our salvation.

Jesus carries our burdens upon His shoulders, and our strength is found in His presence. He is our faithful friend. He said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5 KJV).

There are friends in this world who stick by us even when others may fail us in our hour of need. However, human beings are not always as strong as we should be in our bonds of friendship.

But Christ is our eternally faithful friend. He is the glorious and all-sufficient Savior, saving to the uttermost all them that come unto God by Him, seeing that He ever lives to make intercession for us all (Hebrews 7:25).

Finally, Christ is the gentle physician who heals all our diseases.
Jesus came into this world of sin and sickness and demon-power saying, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18 KJV).

This same Jesus later said, The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10 KJV).

Jesus knows the cure for every sickness. He is too good to do wrong, too wise to make a mistake. The time of miracles is not over! Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8 NKJV).

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the everlasting Son of God…the Prince of Peace…the bright and morning star…the lily of the valley…the rose of Sharon…the staff of life…and honey in the rock.

Jesus Christ is the best friend Oral Roberts has ever had. I have many friends in this world, but because they are human, they are not capable of being the kind of friend to me that Jesus is. I am their friend, too, but I can never be the kind of friend to them that Christ is, for Christ transcends all human limitations. He rises above all human failures.

I believe that Christ is a friend who sticks not only closer than a brother, but a friend who goes with us for all eternity—the Son of God and the Savior of all who believe.

I could say many things about Christ today, but I think I could say no greater thing than that He is our Savior. He is our healer. He is our everlasting friend. Don’t doubt it; believe it. Take Him into your heart today.
