Piper Aircraft Incorporated began operation in the year 1930, after William T. Piper acquired the assets of the then bankrupt Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation. Taylor Brothers unexpectedly filed for bankruptcy, and Piper saw it as an opportunity to further develop a line of aircraft. Piper never envisioned that 30 to 40 years later, he would see the Piper Arrow aircraft manufactured with much higher specifications than the earlier models like the Piper Cub and Piper Cherokee.
In 1967, The Piper Arrow 180 hp aircraft was introduced to the market. It was also referred to as the PA-28R-180 model. It certainly served its purpose as a light aircraft at the time. However, it never really lasted long on the market. In 1969, the Arrow 180 hp aircraft was quickly replaced by the 200 hp version known as the PA-28R-200. Shortly after introduction of this model, the 180 was dropped after 1971. In 1972, the Piper Arrow II was manufactured, providing a 5 inch fuselage stretch compared to previous models. The increased fuselage space allowed for more leg room for passengers as well as greater baggage capacity. Of course, this was very pleasing news for customers!
In 1977, the Arrow III was introduced, offering better low-speed handling, as well as larger fuel tanks for longer journeys. This model continued to remain in operation even after the Piper Arrow IV was introduced in 1979, making it a very popular model in the Arrow line. The new Arrow IV model was built with the "T" tail to resemble other Piper aircraft manufactured at the time, and that was one of the main alterations.
The Piper Arrow aircraft is known for its spacious legroom as well as great luggage capacity. These features certainly make this retractable gear aircraft one of the favorites for people interested in recreational flying. Therefore, this four seat plane would be perfect if your family were going on a cross-country vacation for a week or two. It has a history of providing consistent service to owners, which is why so many of them are still being used today.
In general, the maximum speed of the Arrow aircraft is 183 knots, while the cruise speed is 135 knots. This plane can also reach an average maximum altitude of 16,200 feet, which is pretty impressive for such a small aircraft.
The Piper Arrow is one of the most popular models that people try to find used. You can get a Piper Arrow for sale from just about anywhere in the USA, as they continue to have good resale value. If you are interested in an aircraft for recreational use, then the Arrow is just for you.
Peter writes about the surprising ascent in popularity and performance of the Piper Arrow. For more detailed information about Piper Planes visit his website.
