US library to save recordings from Tupac, Cosby
Rapper Tupac Shakur's song "Dear Mama," Bill Cosby's second comedy album and rare battle sounds from World War II are among 25 recordings the Library of Congress is preserving for their cultural significance.
Most people in the US cringe with disgust when they hear that the US or our government contractors are involved in kick-backs, bribes, or pay-offs overseas. However, more often than not, when doing business in other places and in other nations, well, that's the way it's done. We consider this amoral, that is to say bribery, pay-offs, kick-backs, but not the rest of the world.
This is where much of the money went from Blackwater, Halliburton, etc, in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, heck we even had to pay the Kurds to keep them out of the Sunni, Shiite sectarian violence. Even in strong US Allied countries we had to engage in such things. For instance we had to buy a huge supply of bottled water from the relative's business in the Middle East so that we could use a so-called secured area to move in our cargo containers of supplies to use in the Iraq war. [according to a GAO report on Iraq War expenses]. And that was just one silly little side deal bribe-like agreement we made. Sometimes you have to do what you got to do.
On Wall Street we have all sorts of things which are considered "business as usual," but are definitely considered by normal society to be corrupt, but considered in NY, Washington DC, etc. that is the way they do it, they way they've always done it and the way it is to be done. Such as underhanded deals and understandings with rating agencies, lobbyists, cozy regulator deals (including guarantees of revolving door opportunities in the future).
Even DOD contractors with "military advisors" which are nothing more than retired officers with high-rank and lots of influence, does Carlyle Group ring a bell, and this is a pretty "America First" company, capitalizing American Businesses which do provide our society and civilization so much - Yes, you probably read about Boeing and other companies involved in such things too. You can bet Lockheed, Northrop, Raytheon, and all the other defense contractors hire former military, they have too, just to stay in the loop. That makes sense right, and yet, another GAO report suggests that where we draw that line is a complete challenge too.
Should congress decide? Ha ha ha, they are in bed with lobbyists as much or more, we know that too. Can you see the challenges? So whereas, we think the way they do business overseas is amoral and corrupt, maybe we need to understand our own endeavors too, or re-adjust our philosophy on what it takes to get things done. Don't worry, I am with you, I question these things too, but this is an intellectual discussion, not an attack on the norms - we need a solution, not more complaining. We need to get things done, and yet, this is the system which exists to do it presently. Think on this.
