WILKES-BARRE – A man who pulled a knife on police officers was arraigned Saturday morning at Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
Can you guess, what did the great racer Valentino Rossi practice in at the beginning of his career, before he came into full-fledged bike racing? Well, it was Pocket bike racing. This kind of racing is done using miniature racing bikes called pocket bikes or Minimoto being raced on kart racing tracks. With its beginning during the 1950s, after reaching its peak in the late 1960s and the early 1970s, Minimoto racing or mini GP racing, as it is also called, is now a worldwide accepted sport.
This bike was first built by a group of bike enthusiasts with spare parts lying in their garage just as an experiment. Then on it was being used as pit-bikes for certain advantages of them like small size, easy maneuvering ability and higher speed. But its great utility soon made it a favourite in the circuit. It went on to be built by some famous bike-building companies like Arctic-Cat, Rupp, Taco, Heath, Gilson, and Fox. Moreover, there grew some cottage industries with specialized in building and customizing these pocket bikes and today they stand as a potent form of racing.
Gradually there began the practice of pocket bike racing. Having been born in Japan and Europe, it soon gained worldwide popularity. It is lucrative to both adults and children. While children can engage in learning the techniques of bike racing through this, adults who want to avoid the huge costs and risks associated with full-fledged bike racing can take part in this. It has an advantage in the form that you don't need to acquire a driving license for riding this bike. But the disadvantage comes along! Since it does not satisfy all the criteria of being a street-suitable vehicle, it has to be driven in private possessions like parks, gardens or in kart tracks.
