South American Educators Meet to Redefine Their Sociopolitical Role

South American Educators Meet to Redefine Their SocioPolitical Role

Soon, teachers and educators across Latin America and Spain will be attending the Fifth Ibero-American Conference of Teachers, Educators and Researchers ((Quinto Encuentro IberoAmericano de Colectivas y Redes de Maestros que Hacen Investigacion e Innovacion Desde Su Escuela y Comunidad). One of their objectives is to make teachers and educators authors of and protagonists for the emancipation of the educational process. The hope is that teachers can expand their influence beyond the limits of their school rooms; that they can mobilize and organize to the extent that a pedagogy of emancipation can spread beyond school walls and influence the socio-educational and political realms.

Participating in this year's event will be representatives from Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, and Brasil. Representatives and teachers from Bolivia, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador and Nicaragua are also expected to attend and participate. The Venezuelan chapter will host the event this year. Its National Coordinator is Professor Mirna Sojo Sojo. She will be assisted by Maritza Lopez, Arturo Perez and a host of other dedicated and forward thinking educators.

While discussing the conference with Professor Sojo and when perusing the informational materials that have been distributed, the theme of emancipating the educational process is a recurring one. But emancipating it from what, some might ask? Could the answer be status quo governments? Many in the United States are convinced that the educational process is not geared toward developing people but controlling them and preparing them to perform tasks that serve the interests of government and big business. Apparently this train of thought is prevalent in other countries as well. Could it be that progressive educators in the United States can look to educators in South America for a measure of guidance?

The aims of the conference include deepening the interchange of experiences among teachers from the participating countries, strengthening the learning experience and teaching techniques, recognizing the teaching experiences that promote forms of organization, articulating proposals that perpetuate the production and sharing of knowledge between teachers and communities, recognizing the educational experiences that spring from the communities and empowering the conference's mobilization movement within the participating countries.

The central themes that will be covered during the conference are various but interrelated. They include:

(1) Exploration of what goes into making a teacher or educator. Taken into consideration are the teacher's personal, practical and preparatory experiences, and how they influence his or her ability to relate to and interact with those who are being taught;

(2) Exploration of practical and innovative teaching methods. The construction and development of curricula take front stage during this segment;

(3) Exploration of political projects that focus on what actions teachers can take to emancipate the formal educational process. How can teachers harness their power so that formal education is made more responsive to the needs of individuals within a community as opposed to the needs of governments and corporations? What can teachers do to facilitate the incorporation of multiculturalism, ethnic experiences, multiple languages and other such factors that tend to be neglected or trivialized by status quo educators and administrators;

(4) Exploration of emerging educational techniques and experiences; and

(5) Exploration of scientific and occupational initiatives.

The conference, which is held every two years, will begin on July 13, 2008 and continue until July 20. The organizers have separated Venezuela into fifty expeditionary school district routes. For the first four days, each participant will stay in one of these districts. Each district will accommodate between 15 and 25 participants, who will be able to meet with teachers and members of the community, interchange ideas and objectives and discover how to make community objectives a more integral part of the education process. Participants from other countries will thereby have the opportunity to actually experience what teachers and community members experience and emancipate the educational process by augmenting the role and relevance of community priorities. Attendees will spend the final three days in or near Caracas, attending workshops and meetings that bring most of the participants together.

In the words of Professor Sojo, “As a consequence of this conference, we want to produce a document that makes a strong case for an educational alternative free of neoliberal and capitalist influences. A high quality, free education that is beneficial to our communities can be provided.”

The Fifth Ibero-American Conference of Teachers and Researchers is open to participation by non Spanish speaking educators, and translators are in place to accommodate them. For more information google keyword redcires.

Retail Counter Top Displays

Counters are present in almost every type of store. Clothing, sporting goods, jewelry and specialty shops are all in need of displays to use on their counter tops. Counter displays are useful for merchandising your smaller or more expensive products. They are also very useful for selling the last minute items that your customer might not have come in for, but are willing to buy once they’re at the register. There are a multitude of display types to choose from.

When selecting your store displays, keep in mind the type of messages that you are sending to your customers. You can use cardboard easel displays in a convenience store, discount store or a fashion outlet aimed at younger demographics. They can be great in the right setting and are relatively cheap to have your own graphics printed on them. They’re wonderful for short-term promotions and can be saved for repeat sales or seasons. You may consider something a little more elegant or sturdy for high-end stores or to display items that you sell year-round.

Glass display cases are very nice and attractive counter top additions. Displaying jewelry, rare baseball cards, watches or anything that you don’t want easily stolen or touched in a glass display case is a good solution. This type of display case can be purchased with wooden edges, with locks or can be made completely of glass. Acrylic boxes are also nice, durable and sometimes less expensive. You can decide which type of glass display cases you would like to use in your store based on the style you’re projecting and clientele that you’re targeting.

Spinner racks are useful for displaying a lot of similar types of items. They get your customers to be hands-on with the product and have a high sales impact. When they are used on top of the counter, they are eye level with customers coming to the check out. Sunglasses, jewelry and key chains are commonly displayed on these types of racks. Acrylic and metal are the most common types available. They are generally sturdy and can last for many years in your store. Shop for high-quality racks if you want them to last and you want them to spin smoothly. Consider the weight of what you will be displaying to ensure that tip-overs aren’t going to be a problem. Place heavier objects towards the bottom to make your spinner rack sturdier.

If you’re running out of room on your counter top, you can buy pedestal displays and spinner racks that are free standing on the floor to merchandise your counter area. Don’t forget about displaying gift cards by the register if your store offers them. This small step can really increase your sales and help market your store to more customers. Brochures, business cards and promotional flyers should be displayed, not just stacked on the counter creating a cluttered feel. Keep everything nice and neat, well lit, and visible to your customers. There are a lot of last minute sales to be made and you can be sure that your investment in high-quality, high-impact sales materials and counter top displays will pay off.

British pair through in Eastbourne
British pair Elena Baltacha and James Ward enjoyed fine first-round victories at the ATP & WTA AEGON International, ousting seventh seed Li Na and second seed Feliciano Lopez respectively in Eastbourne.

In America local radio is often broadcast to very small communities, sometimes the smaller the better. In the UK this is not the case and the areas covered tend to be much larger. I got to wondering why the Britain never really developed in the same way.

First of all though, wireless in the UK did indeed start out in the early 1920s as local radio with the first areas being Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham. Lots of cities opened up stations but in a fairly short time they were closed and the BBC was set up as a national broadcasting station broadcasting from London.

In the 1960s Frank Gillard, who had been a well known war correspondent, started a movement to get local radio back onto the airwaves in the UK. He had been to the USA and was impressed with some of the ideas that he had seen there although his vision was more to provide a topical local news and sport variety rather than the music stations which were profligate there.

Around the same time, partly because of the technological advances which allowed for a larger range of frequencies to be available, there were a number of pirate radio stations operating from ships off the shores of the UK. These were more local by their very nature but the BBC did see them as a major threat. Although there was a great deal of reluctance from the BBC hierarchy, BBC local radio started with Radio Leicester on November 8th 1967.

It was not a full on station and only broadcast for a few hours each day. Very early on there were floods in the city centre and the local radio station provided a tremendous service in keeping the local inhabitants up to date with what was happening.

The British Broadcasting Corporation by its very name is a broadcaster and it has always stuck with the values of providing a broad range of subjects to its listeners. Over the last few years a number if independent local radio (ILR) stations have sprung up. They have gone much more down the narrowcasting route.

They tend to provide a more specific range of programs for their audience. This may be in the area of sport, music, politics or whatever.

Very soon the number of stations will increase dramatically. Digital radio has provided the opportunity of many more stations. I am sure that the future will see many stations in each big city and a number covering smaller rural areas throughout the UK. Perhaps each soccer team will have its local station, each orchestra likewise. In this way Britain will be closing the gap up with America.

Trevor loves to investigate and write articles on a myriad of subjects and for many websites. You can read a lot more about the history of the portable DAB radio and find out why the DAB portable radio is so popular now.

Improved technology leads Ferrari, Lamborghini to ditch manual transmission in cars
This is a love letter to the manual transmission. Or perhaps its obituary.

I believe that affiliate marketing is the best model to start with when you are new to Internet marketing. It gives you the opportunity to partner with some of the biggest names in your niche before you have even met them. It also gives you a bird's eye view of the entire process so that you can see how each step is done by those how have been working online for many years.

When you are starting out online, no one knows who you are or what you do. It is up to you to let the world know this through your blog, interactions on social media sites, and more. Once you promote someone's product as an affiliate, that person will know exactly who you are. This happened for me during my first year online. I had promoted someone's program and they wanted to know more about me. The result was that I was mentioned on one of their calls and I had a rush of people who signed up to be on my list.

From the very beginning, I only promoted people and products I had used personally. This just seemed to make sense. You wouldn't want someone in your personal life recommending a babysitter they had never left their children with, or a restaurant they had never eaten at. Recommendations based on personal experiences are always better received.

Take a look at the products and courses you have taken that are related to your niche. Choose one or two and become an affiliate for them. This will be the beginning of you being able to build your business based on the affiliate marketing model.

Remember that the reason to start an Internet business is to give you the time and money to live the life you choose. Affiliate marketing is the method I recommend when you are getting started. German Hunting

Whaling deal seeks to end hunt ban
International body hopes legitimising hunting will lead to drop in number killed.

Buying and owning firearms is a fundamental right held by all citizens of the United States. Hunters have been using rifles to shoot wildlife for sport, food, or both, for generations in America. Having a good rifle can be the difference in shooting a 12 point buck or missing the target completely. Purchasing a good hunting rifle should always revolve around its action, size of cartridges, and comfort.

Action of a rifle is the term for how ammunition is loaded and shot out of the weapon. Bolt action rifles and semi-automatic rifles are probably the two most common forms of rifle used for hunting in the United States. Bolt action rifles do not shoot as fast as semiautomatic rifles and require more skill to operate. However, both are reliable designs that will last for years if properly maintained.

The size of ammunition is another important factor to consider when buying a rifle for hunting. Different size cartridges are better suited for different types of wild game. The larger an animal that is being hunted, the larger the cartridge that will be required to take it down. However, with larger cartridges comes a larger kick to the rifle, so new shooters should start on lower calibers.

The fit of the rifle and how comfortable it is to shoot for a hunter is also a major concern when picking a firearm. A good rifle has a comfortable feel to a hunter when aiming and discharging it to allow for higher accuracy. A variety of accessories, like easy to hold straps and scopes, can also improve accuracy of discharged rounds.

A hunting rifle is the essential tool for most hunting excursions and should be handled with much care at all times. Always acquire safety instructions and receive all permits necessary to obtain this firearm. A good rule of thumb is to never point a gun at anything you do not intend to kill. By purchasing a good hunting rifle, a hunter has a new best friend for years to come.

If you like the outdoors and are a fan of birding, hunting, or just looking at wildlife, you should invest in a Kowa Spotting Scope. You can get all the latest information on spotting scopes along with reviews at my new site, http://kowaspottingscopesite.com.

Pal Knives Jigged

Many a young man has been welcomed into manhood with the gift of his own knife. The ritualistic giving of buck knives is symbolic of his ability to take responsibility for himself and members of his community. Perhaps this tradition is now somewhat archaic, but there was once a time when it was quite common and as an honored rite of passage. Modern technology has made these knives very sturdy and more reliable than ever before, featuring a tempered steel blade fastened into a durable handle. Some are of the hunter style with a fixed blade that is fashioned for quick kills. Hunter's knives come with a sheath designed to keep the blade protected from the elements, and keep you protected...
