William Keleher : Not Forgotten

William Keleher : Not Forgotten

William Aloysius Keleher is a name that will not be forgotten, no matter what. Especially in the region of Albuquerque, New Mexico, the name will always live among the people as a shining star, a person who started from scratch, yet was bold enough to make a difference. William Keleher was a relentless worker who continuously strived to bring about a positive change in the society.

It was the year of 1886 when Mary Ann Gorry Keleher gave birth to their son (William) in Lawrence, Kansas. His father, David Keleher, decided that the family should move to Albuquerque, New Mexico and so they went there in 1889. William Keleher enrolled at Saint Mary's Parochial School where he studied till the eighth grade. Due to unavoidable circumstances, he, however, had to quit the school and start working in order to support the family financially. He started his new life as a messenger for Western Union Telegraph Company, becoming telegraph operator later on. He also worked for education boards and development companies for a brief period before becoming a newspaper reporter (he also became the city editor for two newspapers). This was the pivotal moment when he was attracted to law. It is believed that events at a local County Court influenced his decision. He once mentioned that he felt as if destiny was guiding him towards the court. With the newfound spirit, he joined the law school at Washington and Lee University in the last quarter of 1913. It did not take the meritorious Keleher more than two years to receive the Bachelor of Laws degree and thereby, graduate successfully from the law school, who was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in the same year (1915). He returned to Albuquerque after a while and honored the post of city attorney. Later on, he joined forces with George Downer, practicing law till 1930. In 1931, he found a new partner A.H. McLeod. Together, they formed 'Keleher & McLeod', a law firm that would relentlessly practice law for the betterment of society for decades. Even after so many years, this firm remains as efficient as before.

William Keleher soared to greater heights with his literary works. He always had an avid interest in writing, especially history-related ones. With quality books like the Maxwell Land Grant, Turmoil in New Mexico, The Fabulous Frontier, Memoirs and Violence in Lincoln Country, he gained international recognition and historians' acclamation. His first book came out in 1942, and the last in 1969.

William Keleher played a key role in settling the much talked-about dispute between the government and coal-field miners that took place in New Mexico in 1933. The Gallup American company was troubled with the Mexican coal miners' strike, which was initiated rightfully after much suppression. The situation was going from bad to worse and an immediate remedy was needed to prevent apocalypse. This was the time, William Keleher and M. Mechem presented the "Mechem-Keleher" report on the Gallup coal strike to the government, who later on decided to settle the strike.

Keleher served the Museum of New Mexico and the New Mexico State University which was really worthy of praising. He also took the post of director and legal counsel in a few private organizations.

Even after death, Keleher is still inextricably related with the betterment of society. More than twenty years ago, the W. A. Keleher Memorial Journalism Scholarship was established at the UNM College of Arts and Sciences. As of June 30, 2001, the total investment value of the scholarship is eight million US dollars, huge by any standards.

Keleher died on December 18th, 1972 leaving behind innumerable well-wishers and monumental achievements. His legacy, however, have not gone to the grave with him. Instead, it has given him immortality among the people of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Researchers are unearthing more and more information about Keleher. Thanks to the generous donation by the Keleher family, researchers are finally able to have a better understanding of the society and culture in W.A. Keleher's times. In addition, unknown or little known information about William Keleher is finally being divulged to the world. This proves that people have not forgotten William Aloysius Keleher and his marvelous deeds.

L’Observateur RESERVE – Men and women who died while serving their country were remembered and honored Friday afternoon in a stirring ceremony at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve.

Why Your Business Needs A Folding Machine

Folding a large amount of documents can be a repetitive, time-consuming task. The image of your business depends on the perception of the materials you mail. Many people pay attention to the quality of the printed page they send out, but not as many pay attention to the folding. A folding machine can make the quality of your folded papers uniform. Making a crisp fold in an efficient manner is the goal of a folding machine. A folding machine is a financial investment for your business of organization, so you’ll want to take some time to identify your folding needs before buying a folding machine.

Folding machines are designed to meet a variety of business needs. If your folding needs are simple, an inexpensive manual folding machine might be the correct match for you. The DynaFold DE-168 Desktop Paper Folder is a great folding machine for basic folding needs. This folding machine is portable, weighing only ten pounds, and is able to be used on a desktop. Requiring no setup, this is a great folding machine for an organization that has one or two simple folding needs. This folding machine can handle #20 bond 8.5”x11” paper and can fold up to three sheets manually. For many small businesses, this is all they need in a folding machine at a low price.

For an organization with more substantial needs, there are more folding machine options. The DynaFold DE-262AF Friction Feed Paper Folder is a high performance folding machine with many enticing features. This folding machine self-adjusts to the thickness of the paper you’re folding, using an automatic friction feeding system to move the paper into the machine. 500 sheets of paper can be stacked at once to feed into this folding machine. An automatic ‘stop paper feed’ feature stops the movement of paper when this folding machine jams or runs out of paper. The folding machine speed is adjustable. This folding machine is in the mid range price category.

For high volume folding needs, a folding machine such as the MBM 352F Paper Folder is a good place to look. This folding machine is a heavy-duty friction feeder able to fold up to 22,000 sheets per hour. This folding machine can make eight different folds and is able to handle a wide variety of different papers. Special tools can be added to this folding machine, such as a slitter or a scoring tool.

A folding machine such as the Formax FD-390 Airfeed Document Folder with Stand is a high-end folding machine designed for high volume businesses. This folding machine uses an air feed to suck the papers into the rollers, making this a good folding machine choice for a business using a variety of special papers.

A wide variety of folding machines are available to meet your folding needs. Folding machines can be a substantial investment, so it’s a good idea to research your folding machine options. For more information about folding machines, please visit iShopit.com

Flight Simulations for Pilots in the United Kingdom and Europe

Pilots young and old throughout the European continent need to stay sharp in their piloting skills. The flight deck can become a difficult place to work for those pilots who don’t practice, stay focused, and understand every aspect of their job. While the public may think that hours upon hours of flight experience are enough to make a great pilot, they don’t understand that taking a look at the airline industry from a different perspective is important from time to time. As well, pilots need to work on their skills outside of the flight deck in order to stay current with their licensing and certifications and prove their continued ability to safely fly airliners.

One way in which pilots can get more experience and a different perspective on their jobs is through flight simulation programs, available at flight schools and training facilities. These flight simulators range from simple computer programs to large simulators where pilots sit at a functioning control board. The reason why pilots often choose this route in their efforts to stay sharp is that it is less strenuous than actual flight and is a quick way to get some practice in between work days. As well, flight centres and training facilities are becoming more plentiful in the United Kingdom and Europe, which allows travelling pilots to test out new control configurations and flight simulators.

Another way for pilots to get some extra flight hours into their busy work schedule is to pick up some hours flying charter planes. Often, this option is best used by airline pilots that have just left an airline position, as the flight schedule can be rigorous. Charter flights allow pilots to work on smaller airplanes with fewer functions, which require pilots to be more intuitive and thoughtful in their jobs. As well, charter flights are a welcome reprieve from the pressures and rigors of the airline industry. Charter planes often carry less than twenty people, allowing a pilot the chance to speak with passengers and break away from their routine.

In any event, airline pilots need to fly extra hours for a number of reasons. Pilots need to see their positions from a different perspective, even if this requires sacrificing a bit of personal time with flight simulators. As well, pilots can always use experience in a variety of different settings to keep them on their toes. Finally, pilots need to understand the importance of their jobs to the hundreds of thousands of passengers they help travel throughout the year.

Jeff Lorber Philly Style Jazz Music CD Review

The exceptionally talented Jazz artist Jeff Lorber has released him CD entitled Philly Style. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Jeff Lorber fans, and Jazz fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Philly Style Jeff Lorber’s artistic excellence is on full display as Lorber has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be him best work to date.

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.

The nice thing about a CD like this is when the talent is this rich even if Jazz isn’t your favorite style you still can’t help but appreciate the greatness of the artist.

Philly Style is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it my highest recommendation. It’s quite simply great listening. A must buy if you're even mildly into Jazz music.

While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 3 - Regardless Of, track 9 - When She Smiles, and track 10 - Serpentine Lane.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Under Wraps. Good stuff!

Bearded Collie Origing, Facts, And Usefull InformationThe Bearded Collie is said to be a direct descendant or the Polish Lowland Sheepdog, when dogs of this breed were shipwrecked off the coast of Scotland. Others believe that the dog is descended from the Hungarian Magyar Komondor. Judging from the coat and the herding abilities of the "Beardie" it is most likely that he has a good deal of the Polish Lowland Sheepdog characteristics in his makeup.

As early as the sixteenth century this dog was represented in art of the day, being pictured as a companion of the Duke of Buccleigh by Gainsborough. The Beardie certainly is very similar in looks to the Polish sheepdog, being tousled...

Helping Hand Throughout the city, organizations and outreaches are seeking volunteers and donations to help people in need. Here is a list of some that have asked for a helping hand. The Savoy Theatre - LondonThe Savoy Theatre, built by Richard D'Oyly Carte, opened Oct. 10, 1881 in order to showcase the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. This theatre was the first theatre, as well as public building in the world, to be lit by electricity in its entirety. Around 1,200 incandescent lamps were used. It also had gaslights installed for backup purposes, but they were not used often. The Savoy Hotel, also built by D'Oyly Carte, went up next to the theatre in 1889. The theatre was, for many...
