Waynesboro theater group pushes project
Diagnosed with terminal cancer and given 45 days to live, Lillian Morse made a strategic move that kept her theater project alive. Like many other cultural initiatives across the state, Morse's Wayne Theatre Alliance needed to offer economic-development incentives to downtown Waynesboro, so she changed her approach and in 2002 ...

So you have decided to put videos on your website, but if your are like most people you're finding it to be a lot more complicated than you first thought and one of the many technical issues that you have run into is the video streaming host. To make the process of streaming video on your site simpler and fun I have laid out the three most popular options below, hopefully by the end of this article you will have a better understanding of what a video streaming host is and why you need to have it in order to stream video on your website.

Video Sharing Sites like YouTube allow you to upload and stream your videos for free, they will accept your videos in almost any format the most popular being AVI, MOV, WMV, and MPG file formats, which they will then convert to Flash which is the most popular video streaming format online. They will then make a piece of code available that you can use to embed the video on your website.

However the downside of using this type of video streaming host is that your videos are seen by anyone, not good if you want to make your videos private or for members only. Also most of these video sharing site place restrictions on your videos, for example YouTube videos must be no bigger than 2 GB and no more than 10 min in length.

Your Own Web Server can also be used to host and stream your videos, if you are already paying for hosting your own web server could host your videos depending on the size of your hosting package and the use of your videos. You want to be sure you have enough storage and plenty of bandwidth if you are expecting to get a lot of traffic; it would make sense to discuss your plans with your hosting provider.

Also make sure you convert your videos into Flash format so that your files will be small and also because Flash is the most popular format the majority of Internet uses will be able to view them. Plus you will need an SWF player to play your videos a popular free one is JW Player just do a search online.

Specialized Streaming Video Host is the most popular amongst savvy webmasters because these companies specialize in streaming and hosting videos their servers are big enough to host your videos and are built to deal with huge influx of traffic, and they are surprisingly cheap compared to the service they offer.

Most of them will only except Flash files so you will need to convert any videos to flash first before uploading them. Again you also get to choose the Flash player, which some companies will provide for you but you don't have to advertise the hosting company like you would with YouTube.

The downside is these companies cater for the more technical minded and it can get a little confusing if you're not the technical type. But don't let that put you of because if you're planning on having loads of videos that's going to be viewed a lot this type of service might be the best option for you, and they offer plenty of support and you will always find training and help you just need to search the Internet.

To learn more on how to use a streaming video host and the fastest and simplest way to add video to your website you should check out http://addingvideotowebsite.blogspot.com/.

For those who are new to the world of knife sharpening, often the most challenging part is knowing when to stop. How do you know when the knife is sharp enough? How do you get it to that point?

When sharpening a knife, sharpen until you see burrs. Then, turn the knife over, and sharpen the other side. The honing process will remove these burs, but they are important. Burrs are the only way to know that you have removed enough of the metal to sharpen the blade.

Once the blade has been sharpened using the rougher grit of your sharpener, stone, or file, then you will need to refine the blade. This is usually done with the opposite side of the sharpener, which has a smoother grit. Honing the blade can also be done with a leather strop. Simply repeat the process of sharpening the knife with this finer grit.

Some experienced knife sharpeners test the sharpness of the blade against an object. These may range from cutting across a nylon paint brush, to shaving the hair on your arm, to testing it on your thumb. If testing against your thumb, hold your thumb parallel or perpendicular to the blade and carefully slide the pad of your thumb across - not down - the blade. It can take quite some time to get a feel for this method, however, and you should not try it as a beginning knife sharpener. If you do it incorrectly, it is possible to slice your finger open. Another test is to hold the edge lightly against your fingernail, at about a 30 degree angle. Press down lightly. If it begins to cut into your nail, it is sharp. If it slips, the blade is dull. This can also be done using a pencil, a plastic pen, or another relatively soft solid object.

These tests, however, will not determine whether the edge has a burr or other imperfection. Burrs are naturally caused by the sharpening process. They are thin projections on the very edge of the knife. Usually, they are pushed left or right due to pressure in the sharpening process. Sometimes they point directly off the edge of the knife; this is called a "wire edge." Because the burrs are very thin, this may seem like a very sharp edge. However, it is too thin, and the first use of the blade will break it off, leaving you with a very dull knife. If you seem to be getting very sharp knives after you use your knife sharpener, but they become dull within just one or two uses, this may be the culprit.

The easiest way for beginners to see burrs on the knife edge is to hold the blade up to the light. The light should bounce off the blade uniformly, except for where there is a burr. It can also be felt using your fingernail, although again, you should avoid using your fingers to test the blade of the knife unless you know you will not cut yourself.

Sharpen 'Em offers a large selection of quality knife sharpeners from all the best manufacturers, from low-budget hand held sharpeners to high-end electric sharpeners.

Transportability Challenges Solved with an Accessible Mobility Van

Noah Mischiek was a bright, independent young boy.  He had right hemisphere paralysis and was unable to use the right side of his body.  Noah's paralysis was the result of an in-utero stroke that resulted in an emergency caesarean section.  The full extent of his condition wasn't diagnosed until he was six months old – after Noah's parents noticed he was not able to use his right hand.  A quick paediatrician's visit led to a long journey to McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario where the family received the devastating news.

Despite his disability, Noah was always very independent and wanted to do things for himself. While his parents were told he would never walk, Noah demonstrated the ability to take steps, which came as a great surprise for many.

"They told us he would never walk. He's like our miracle baby!" notes Jamie Rolland, Noah's mother.

At three years old, Noah started wearing a serial cast on his right leg to help him walk.  The cast is removed for a day then put back on for gradually longer periods of time.  The brave pre-schooler also gets Botox injections three times a year in the back of his right leg.  The injections are to help relax his leg muscles that were damaged as a result of the stroke, with the eventual hope of Noah walking on his own.

"I'll never forget ... my niece got into the car and Noah asked, 'How come I can't do that?' and I thought it would break my heart", Jamie recalls.

Creating Family Memories with a Wheelchair Accessible Van

PC Children's Charities help developmentally and physically challenged children.  The charity donated $20,000 to help Noah's family buy a wheelchair accessible van.  The Ontario March of Dimes, an advocacy and rehabilitation charity also contributed $5,524 through the Home and Vehicle Modification program funded by Ontario's Ministry of Community and Social Services. Frank Kasm, Mobility Specialist at Liberty Motor Company, equipped a van with a rotating seat so Noah could seat himself inside the vehicle at the simple push of a button.  Frank personally delivered the 2004 Ford Freestar to the family's home in Woodstock, Ontario on July 24th, 2007.

When Jamie saw Frank drive up with the van, she was very emotional, "I just bawled my eyes out.  Frank had put a personalized plaque inside the van ... it was overwhelming."

The nameplate mounted on the van's dashboard reads "Noah's van".  Frank and the Mobility Specialists at Liberty Motor Company have similar plates made for each child who receives a wheelchair accessible van.  According to Frank, "it helps create a connection between the vehicle and the people who will be relying on it, and with the plaque the van becomes their own personal vehicle".

Noah has taken that bond and his relationship with Frank, to heart.  Frank brought Noah a plush toy lion, which he's named Leo, because Noah is so very brave.  He and Frank have formed a close friendship and they regularly speak on the telephone and keep in touch via e-mail.

"Noah just loves Frank!  He gave us a lot of care and Noah has really bonded with him", Jamie says.

Noah can now get himself into the vehicle and he wants to go everywhere.

"Even if it's just going to buy a bag of milk, Noah has to come along because it's his van," says his mother.

Mischiek Family's New Found Liberty to Travel & Plan Family Vacations

Over two years later Noah's family is able to take vacations in between trips to the hospital and medical treatments because of their wheelchair accessible van conversion from Liberty Motor Co.  In fall 2009, the family travelled to Cape Breton on Canada's eastern coast to visit relatives.

"The kids got to see half of Canada on that trip!  There's no way we would have been able to do that without the van", Jamie recalls.

Frank and Liberty Motor Company also made certain the van was equipped with a DVD player to help make longer trips much easier and enjoyable for the entire family.

"The kids love it!  We use it every time we go in the van.  As soon as we get in, it's ‘can we watch a movie?'  They've already seen Noah's favourite movie Cars several times".

Now that he owns a wheelchair accessible van, Noah would love to visit Marineland Canada next summer… and they just might do that, thanks to Liberty Motor Company!

Introduction Some 15,000 years ago Ireland was completely covered in ice. The large sheets of ice and deep rugged glaciers would have made any chance of life impossible. As the ice started to melt, various lakes formed and vegetation and plant life started to return. As the ice continued to melt, more rivers and lakes started to form and as the weight of the ice shifted, the land started to rise. Some 10,000 years ago and up to around 5000 BC, when the warm conditions began to stabilise, Ireland was introduced to an immigration of animals and new plant life. Trees especially flourished including the juniper, willow, Scots pine, elm, ash, alder and oak. There would have been many wild...

Do some US military people use pocket knives for anything? I didnt know if they maybe used pocket knives. I have a parker knife and it looks like a tool knife. I hope not. Do you know how to tell the difference from hunting/ combat knife or a tool knife. The plate is like 6-7 nches and the handle has a curve like the blade. Would the rmy use this. PS it is made in the USA Did you know you have asked this question under "government and politics?" I haven't checked, but there could be a better place for this question, maybe "hobbies"? But,most military do not use pocket knives "for everything". For one thing, these may be considered as a weapon, and get you can get arrested in...
