Do some US military people use pocket knives for anything?

I didnt know if they maybe used pocket knives. I have a parker knife and it looks like a tool knife. I hope not. Do you know how to tell the difference from hunting/ combat knife or a tool knife. The plate is like 6-7 nches and the handle has a curve like the blade. Would the rmy use this. PS it is made in the USA

Did you know you have asked this question under "government and politics?"

I haven't checked, but there could be a better place for this question, maybe "hobbies"?

But,most military do not use pocket knives "for everything".
For one thing, these may be considered as a weapon, and get you can get arrested in some places, not just on airplanes, but on military posts for carrying a knife.

Military types train with weapons, but aren't allowed to carry them, just anywhere. They are kept under lock and key, except when going into combat, or training.

Artillery Sword Ames

Civil War sword finds way back to Pittsburgh
A "significant" Civil War sword that may have been sold, stolen or bartered away from Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum is back at the Oakland museum, officials said.

There is almost as much variety within the types of two-handed swords as there is within weapons as a whole; broadswords, katanas, zweihanders, and more are all part of this subtype of swords, and while there is a broad range of weapon-specific techniques there are also a few basic skills that will help anyone looking to learn how to wield a two-handed sword, and that might even apply to a few other weapons.

The first thing you should learn is an appropriate grip. A key to a powerful sword swing is similar to a powerful punch; you want to make sure your wrist is lined up well with the cutting edge much like how a straight punch is more powerful. You can achieve this by lining up the back edge of the grip so that it crosses diagonally from the base of your index finger. Both hands should have this grip.

This might feel awkward at first; both wrists should be twisted somewhat outward, placing your wrists directly behind the edge of the blade. Your second goal is to get good leverage; this involves placing your hands a decent ways apart from each other; in fact, on swords with pommels that make it reasonable, curling your lower hand's pinky under the base is often a good idea. Your goal is to get enough leverage to allow quick snap motions, allowing for quick attacks and defense.

Most of your attacks with a two-handed sword are going to be slashes. A quick wrist snap should start your attacks, and you should be slashing, not chopping; you want to sort of drag the blade powerfully across your opponent, in theory creating a deep and long cut; a chop is less effective and risks breaking certain kinds of swords.

And don't broadcast your attacks; there is no reason to raise a sword far above your head for an vertical slash, etc. Similar logic holds with regards to thrusts; less is more. You shouldn't be aiming to run someone through like you see in movies; you'll overextend yourself with absolutely zero practical effect.

For defense, you should still aim for a minimal movement, and avoid direct blocks, as they slow your counterattacks. Defensive movements differ from attacks in that where with an attack you want to move the tip of the blade, with a defense you should move the base and handle first. You want to keep the blade in line as much as possible, and for low attacks where this is impossible you want to drop the blade straight down your center before rolling it outward to block.

How To Play Pick 4 Lottery Numbers

Most Pick 4 Lottery Tickets can be purchased for one ($1) dollar. You pick four digits from zero to nine to make up a Pick 4 Number from 0000 to 9999. These numbers are the beginning and the end of 10,000 different possible numbers that can make you a winner. Each of these ten thousand numbers are called Straight Pick 4 Numbers.

This is how to win Pick 4's Jackpot. You choose 4 digits, play them for one dollar on a Straight Ticket, and match the exact order of the drawn number of your State Lottery's drawing. You Win $5,000 in most State Lotteries.

Some State's Lottery Prize structure is based on a pari-mutuel system. In this case, the Jackpot payout is based on the amount of money invested or wagered into a drawing. The winners divide all the monies bet from the betting pool's total income. California Daily 4 Lottery has such a system.

For example, when the 8888 was drawn as the Winning Daily 4 Number on February 5, 2009, the 117 players each with the winning Straight Ticket (the only way one can play this number because there is only one form) received $416. In the non pari-mutuel systems the winners would be guaranteed the full jackpot of $5,000.

If you want to learn more about how to win pick 4 and get a $5,000 return on your $1investment or are a newbie to the daily Pick 4 lottery game, simply go to your local lottery retailer in your neighborhood and pick up a pamphlet or brochure on how to play pick 4. Or you can go online and type in your State lottery and they will provide you with all the information you need to know.

Within the information available about the Pick 4 lottery one will discover that you can play your four chosen digits straight or boxed. The Straight Ticket investment plays the number as the exact order given to the retailer. The Box Ticket investment allows the player to collect on any order of the four digits played.

For each $1Box Ticket with the number 1234 the player receives $200 for any of 24 possible orders that this number represents. When the four digits are all different this type of number is known as a "single". When two digits are the same, as in 1123 , it is known as a "double". And the payoff also doubles to $400 for every one dollar wagered based on the fact that there are only twelve possible winning forms.

These two forms represent over ninety (90%) percent of all possible winning numbers. The remaining possible Pick 4 numbers fall in the following categories of "double-doubles" when the four digits are made up of two pairs of matching numbers such as 1122, "triples" when three of the four digits match each other such as 1112, and lastly, the "quads" when all four digits match each other such as 1111, and can only be played on a straight ticket.

The double-double payoff on a Box Ticket for $1 is $800. The triple pays $1200 for the same $1 Box ticket investment. Some State lotteries mark the payoff at $1198.

Some State Lotteries such New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and others allow for the players to invest with a $.50 per ticket. The payoffs are set at half the one dollar payoff rates. For tax purposes, the player can pick up his/her winnings from the local lottery retailer without any taxes being deducted.

This is to the player's benefit when playing double-doubles and triples. This saves both time and money. Otherwise a winning Box Ticket has to be cashed at the regional State Lottery office, and they usually deduct the State Taxes from your winnings prior to presenting you your check.

Other States, like Indiana's Hoosier Lottery, keep the minimum play at one dollar, but gives the player the opportunity to play a Pick 4 number on a combination Straight/Box Ticket for half the payout for each portion.

The secret on how to win Pick 4 is to play with a plan or strategy. There are systems and strategies available to help the Pick 4 player figure out how to choose numbers. On the internet look for systems that have proven winning strategies, all are not the same. Look for systems or strategies that provide many clear understandable examples.

Like other things in life you get what you pay for. Quality has a higher cost attached to its product. Whether it is a brand name or craftsmanship, the consumer receives a better product. That is why the initial cost factor should be less of a factor when one considers which system to purchase. All systems usually provide a money-back guarantee if the customer is not satisfied with the product.

No matter what system one decides to purchase, it is important to remember that with one's first WIN, Straight or Box, the player will recoup the cost of the purchased system. The minimum winning Pick 4 ($.50) payout is $100. It is like having a DOUBLE GUARANTEE. So even if someone sells a high quality system for $50, you make $50 while getting you money back for the system you just purchased.

When shopping for a new car, usually a person checks out a number of dealerships before making a purchase in order to get the BEST Deal. You want the best quality car for your dollar at an affordable price.
Avoiding all the hoopla of advertising, the results are what counts. Does the system offer evidence or proof of its winning capabilities? Is the system multi-faceted? Since word of mouth is crucial in identifying a quality product, check out what other customers say about the system in testimonials, if they are offered.

Lastly, the Pick 4 Lottery is the best opportunity with its low odds and high returns of one's investment to add some needed money to one's financial situation during these difficult economic times. There is no other place in the world to get these kinds of returns for such small investments in a short amount of time.

How to Win Pick 4.....simply purchase a quality system with many good examples!

Early marriages, early endings
Early marriages were not advisable as there were many divorce cases involving young couples.

Melanoma might be a more rare form of the types of skin cancers, but it amounts to the most deaths caused from skin cancer. Melanoma is quite treatable if caught early, but it's tough to catch. Most of us have moles or skin blemishes that doctors question, but often times, it's a painful biopsy process that leaves the patient in pain - sometimes for no reason if the mole comes back melanoma-free. This new device can help detect skin cancer through heat on the skin, and leaves the patient without the pain.

The Melanoma Detector uses infrared heat-detecting technology to locate cancerous cells on the skin. Cancer cells typically divide more rapidly than regular cells, therefore causing a higher metabolic rate and giving off more heat as energy. Because the difference in temperature is very small, two professors at Johns Hopkins Cancer Center and School of Engineering have devised a process for making the difference stand out.

The process works when the skin is cooled, and then begins to heat up again. To do this, the dermatologist would shoot a burst of air onto the patient's skin for one minute. Once the cooling is finished, the Melanoma Detector is turned on and the infrared light is shined onto the mole or lesion. The doctor is able to view the differences in temperature through the same technology that is used with typical night vision goggles. If a heat variance is detected, that could be the presence of a growing malignant tumor.

One of the designers, Rhoda Alani, the skin expert of the twosome, is fairly optimistic about the product. She says, "We, at this point, are not able to say that this instrument is able to replace the clinical judgment of a dermatologist, but we envision that this will be useful as a tool in helping to diagnose early-stage melanoma."

The Melanoma Detector is not available on the market yet, but it is going through a pilot testing program to fine-tune the product. The eventual goal is that a handheld monitor will be available as well as working the technology into the current full-body scans to test a patient who has an abnormally large amount of moles or lesions on the skin. You can visit Johns Hopkins websites at http://www.jhu.edu or visit http://www.gizmag.com for more information.

Several years ago, the Iranian and Syrian Leadership entered a very verbal and highly publicized war-pact, most likely due to the Iran's worry that it might someday in the future find itself in a war with Israel or the United States. Adding Syria's military might to Iran's could insure that an attack on either would be met with a much larger and stronger force than either one might muster by themselves.

If Syria gets into a war, Iran promises to come to her aid as a brother and fight any Syrian enemy along side of her. If Iran is attacked by the Jewish State, or if Israel attacks Iran's nuclear weapons facilities, then Syria promises to attack Israel and help defend and fight with Iran. Well, at least that is the war pact currently in place; that is the plan.

Now then, I ask; "What if the US is involved and comes to Israel's aid?" or "What if the US pre-empts Iran's nuclear weapons program, will Syria fight the US and forfeit its civilization for Iran?" Good questions, and so recently, I was having this discussion with a post cold war era scholar, Jesse Giraldo, and I asked him what he made of the Syrian-Iranian War Pact which has been so highly publicized throughout the Middle Eastern Media. He stated;

"As far as Syria is concerned I don't think their willing to bend over backwards for Iran, If the U.S continues to put pressure on their trade relations while giving Syria a more lucrative alternative I really can't see Iran's economy doing anything but weaken and Syria further distancing themselves from Iran."

Indeed, and that appears to be the new diplomacy plan. But Syria is also said to be run by a group of very shifty folks, switching sides a lot to serve their own immediate interests, I think it is an interesting tactic and change in policy, and it might be worthy of the risk. It throws things off balance, and it is interesting.

Also Syria feels it gets more power in working with the US commercial enterprises, it protects them from getting involved in a conflict they cannot win. Besides Syria has huge ties to France, Germany, and other nations too, ties that Iran doesn't have economically now. So, Europe, NATO could be willing to allow an Iranian conflict, but would prefer not to have Syria involved, as that could turn into a can of worms. Israel knows this.

Right now, it appears that Syria and Iran may honor their war pact agreement during times of peace, or tension, but in the middle of a war, would Syria really go to war with the United States of America? Syria does have more friends and trading partners than Iran, who else might step in, or would it be over far too soon for that? These are all questions, questions which may never be answered, or at least let's hope.
