HAVE YOU EVER HEARD NAME OF AN ARGENTINE DOG?

Have you ever heard this name? No, I tell you that it is a hidden breed of mastiff. The Argentine Dog was developed by a courageous big game hunter, Dr. Antonio Norse Martinez during the 1920s. This dog was also used for military and police work, and also for guard and guide dog purposes. This breed since had a lot of negative publicity due to them becoming a favorite amongst dog fighting enthusiasts.

The dangerous Dog Act banned these dogs in Britain in 1991, and they have also been banned in Australia since then. Some of the many talents of the Argentine Dog include hunting, tracking, watch dogging, guarding, police work, narcotics detection, military, work, competitive obedience.

They will also get along well with the pets they have been raised with. They should however not be left alone with children, although they get along well with them. The Argentine Dog has a very striking appearance, and exhibits dignity.

The Argentine Dog does not have very high grooming needs, and they are very easy to take care of. This dog has no doggy odor. Special attention should be paid to the nails of these dogs, as they tend to suffer from ingrown toe nails. Their nails should therefore be clipped often. The Argentine Dog is an average shedding dog.

The Argentine Dog is a fairly healthy dog breed, but they can however suffer from deafness and hip dysplasia.

The Argentine Dog is not ideal for those without any previous dog ownership experience. This breed can be very controlling, and will therefore require an owner that is dominant. It is very important that new owners find ethical and breeders of a good reputation, as a stable temperament for these dogs are essential. This dog is very devoted to its family, and will do very well guarding its home and territory.

Height: Male 24.5-27.5 inches, female 23.5-26 inches

The Argentine Dog should be exposed to intense socialization from an early age onwards. Obedience training also is a must for this breed. This is a very intelligent breed, and the training of these dogs should take place in a loving, firm and fair environment. The Argentine Dog will respond well to reward. Erratic behavior might occur if training is done in a heavy-handed manner or if they are isolated in kennels. This breed will excel in agility, as guide dogs, and in police work.

Controlling Pest Birds with Bird Spikes

The name bird spikes conjures up notions of barbarians with studded weapons used against defenseless little birds, but that is just not true.  Bird control spikes, also known as needle spikes or anti-roosting spikes are devices consisting of long, needle-like spikes used to control pest birds.  The needles or spikes are usually all plastic or a plastic base with stainless steel spikes.  They are harmless to pest birds, the spikes are not sharp, but create an unsuitable landing area for the birds so they move on to a more hospitable site.  Bird spikes are designed to keep pest pigeons and larger birds off of building ledges, signs, parapet walls and other flat surfaces that pest birds like to roost and nest on.

Every year millions of dollars are spent cleaning up after and repairing the damage caused by pest birds such as pigeons, sea gulls, crows and other urban birds. Not only are these problems unsightly; pest birds and their feces can spread 60 plus transmittable diseases. Safety, sanitation and health hazards caused by bird droppings can pose serious liability risks, and left untreated, can lead to accidents and lawsuits. Bird feces, bird nests and debris can also create a bad public image with tenants and patrons. Individuals, companies and government agencies are tired of cleaning up bird feces or repairing the damage that is caused by pest birds and their droppings. Instead they have decided to invest in a Bird Control Solution, which is often as simple as installing bird spikes.

Bird spikes are made in one-foot or two-foot lengths, with different widths.  The widths of the spikes are usually 3”, 5” and 8”.  The width of the bird spike used is determined by the area to be covered.  It is best if the entire surface area that birds are landing on is covered with bird spikes.  Installation of bird spikes is often as easy as applying adhesive or screwing them down.  Once installed bird spikes are virtually invisible, not taking away from architectural detail.  If you look hard around any major city in the country, you will find bird spikes on building ledges, signs, light posts and other areas.
