Several months ago, the CPSC released interim guidance on the identification of Chinese drywall. The CPSC itself admits that further development of an identification protocol is necessary. Let's take a quick look at the steps recommended by the CPSC.

The first step calls for an evaluation of the symptoms of corrosion as caused by Chinese drywall in the home. Certainly, many of the homes that contain Chinese drywall also show signs of Corrosion. On the other hand, many of the homes do not. In the SAME document, the CPSC also says: "Homes may also be misclassified as having no drywall problem due to the absence of characteristics found to be typical in the limited testing to date. Given these limitations, additional work will continue to validate these methods and the identification guidance will be modified as necessary."

So, now we have established that a prerequisite to further testing is evidence of corrosion, but this corrosion may or may not be present in all homes that are affected by Chinese drywall.

Although they don't come out and say it, it seems to me that the CPSC's recommendations are directed at those who already own homes that they suspect may be affected. If I owned a home that I thought may contain Chinese drywall, I would certainly start with a visual check for Chinese sheet rock. Assuming that no one had experienced adverse health issues, a negative check for visual symptoms would likely be the end of the inspection. If the Chinese drywall is not currently causing any issues, why would it matter?

What's the old adage - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Something along those lines. As someone who owns the home, the loss has already occurred. There is no more protecting you or your family financially.

Now, if I were considering the purchase of a new home, the absence of visible corrosion would not even begin to give me peace of mind. In this situation, I would be looking for a way to protect myself from entering into a situation that would cause the loss. I would want a guarantee that the home I am considering does not contain Chinese dry wall. If the home did not contain corrosion, it would pass the CPSC's guidance. Would the CPSC then reimburse me for my losses if the home later ended up containing Chinese drywall? I think we all know the answer to that one.

Someone considering the purchase of a new home should be looking for a more comprehensive/guaranteed testing options. If the home is cleared by this test and later found to contain Chinese drywall, the associated insurance would cover the losses.

Similarly, if my family was experiencing health problems that could be associated with Chinese wallboard, I would continue on in spite of the absence of corrosion. I would want to know without a shadow of a doubt whether or not my home contained Chinese drywall. Of course, if my builder were repairing homes affected or there was another pressing reason to obtain more quantitative evidence, I would commission a full sampling of my home as well.

The CPSC guidance was better than nothing, but only for people who already own the home they are concerned about. In my experience, it just confuses people who are considering the purchase of a home. Potential buyers need a guarantee that the home they are considering does not contain Chinese drywall.

Taking Care of Wooden Floors

What will be the best way to clean the wooden floors? There are some guidance that you can use to make your wooden floors in their best. To look its best a room must have a clean, softly lustrous floor whatever the finish or covering may be. Such floors are not difficult to achieve with the equipment and materials available at small cost to today's housekeeper.

For waxed wooden floors and resilient coverings there are long handled buffers and applicators of modest price, while electric polishers can be rented inexpensively from hardware and grocery stores. Self-polishing waxes make the care of many types of flooring easier and to apply them there are applicators with containers for the wax, controlled by a trigger.

WAXED WOODEN FLOORS predominate in all but the kitchens and bathrooms of most homes so we shall discuss them first. Wax is sometimes applied directly to softwood floors, but for these as well as for hardwoods a finish for the wood is highly desirable for appearance and ease of maintenance. If the finish on your floors is badly worn away in traffic areas, or if the wood has never been finished properly, save yourself a headache by having it sanded down to clean wood and refinished. Electric sanders can be rented: sealers are especially easy to apply. So the job could be done without outside help.

FOR WOODEN FLOORS in good condition, whatever the finish, the routine care is the same if they are waxed. They should be dusted regularly with a vacuum cleaner, soft brush, or untreated mop. Once a month, or as needed, they should be polished with a weighted buffer or electrical polisher. At this time fresh wax should be applied to areas that look worn. About twice a year the entire floor should be re-waxed. A paste wax is the most durable and is recommended generally, though liquid and even some self-polishing waxes can be used if you prefer them.

BEFORE PASTE WAX IS APPLIED the floor should be cleaned thoroughly. For this purpose use a liquid wax, or one of the special cleaners made for removing embedded soil from waxed floors. In this category are Bruce's Floor Cleaner, Preen, and Beautiful. Like liquid wax these special cleaners contain a dry cleaning agent such as naphtha, plus wax and other efficient dirt removers; they loosen the soil and remove old wax, yet leave a film of clean wax on the floor. Directions for using these products are given on the container. Read them carefully to obtain the best results. The general instructions are as follows:

First vacuum the floor carefully to remove surface dust and dirt Shake the container to be sure the contents are thoroughly mixed before applying the cleaner. If it has been stored in a cold place and become thickened, stand the can in hot water for a while, or hold it under a hot water faucet, and then shake it. (Never heat any wax preparation over an open flame.)

YOU CAN STAND UP FOR WAXING. You do not need to get down on your hands and knees to apply cleaning wax to a floor. Use one of the inexpensive, long handled applicators that are made especially for this purpose. One kind makes use of steel wool pads that greatly aid the cleaning action. Pour a little of your cleaner onto the floor, and using the applicator, rub with the grain of the wood to loosen the dirt which will be picked up by the cloth pad, or by a cloth placed under the applicator pad. Change cloths as they become soiled and work until the floor has been completely cleaned.

IF YOU PREFER HAND CLEANING, use essentially the same method. Pour a little cleaner onto the floor, spread it with a clean cloth, and rub it in to loosen the dirt, which will be removed by the cloth. Turn the cloth as it becomes soiled and apply more cleaner where it is needed. Use fine steel wool dipped in cleaner for difficult spots. A thin layer of wax will be left on the floor when you finish and this should be buffed.

What will be the best way in applying wax? Get some tips in which position you can apply the wax on the floor. Wooden floors can be handled easier with the electric polishers, which can be done without outsider's help. Get the wooden floor polished at least once in a month.

Clean the floor before putting the wax. Use the vacuum cleaner to remove the dust and dirt. You can choose to stand by using a long handle applicators or you can choose to wax by hand. Both has the same method.

White Out at City Stadium Tuesday
RICHMOND, VA - (Monday, June 21, 2010) - The Richmond Kickers will attempt to continue their progression in the prestigious U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 22nd against division foe, Real Maryland Monarchs.

Saladin was a prominent figure in the Medieval history. He was the most famous of the Muslim military heroes. His achievements were not limited to the military sphere alone, but transgressed across the political, diplomatic and administrative arenas. He succeeded to unite the Muslims and defeated the Crusaders and recapture Jerusalem.

His Youth

Saladin was born in Tikrit (present Iraq) in the year of 1138. His father, Najmuddin, was a Kurdish from Azarbaijan. On the night of his birth, his father, Najmudin, decided to move to Aleppo and worked for Imaddin Zangi, the powerful Turkish governor in northern Syria.

He received a taste of military life under the guided eyes of his uncle, Asaddin, and the academic and religious elements from his father. Following the tradition in those days, Saladin was trained to be expert horse rider and handled various weapons of combat, such as the sword in and archery. While growing up, Saladin was an ordinary undistinguished youth, with a greater interest in religious studies, rather than military achievement.

Uniting the Muslims.

Egypt became the stepping stone for Saladin's ambition to recapture Jerusalem. This opportunity came when he was part of the triumphant army sent to Egypt by the Emir of Damascus to face the onslaught of the Crusaders. Upon the death of the vizier and his uncle, (army commander Asaddin), he was appointed as the Vizier of Egypt, keeping alliance to the emir in Damascus. When the Emir in Damascus died, Saladin proceeded in his plan to unite the fractional Muslims states with single minded intention to stage a holy war.

Battle of Hattin.

This is the beginning of the downfall of the crusaders. The exhausted army was trapped. So great were the losses in the ranks of the crusaders in this single battle that the Muslims were able to overrun over nearly the entire Kingdom of Jerusalem. One by one their stronghold fell under the power of Saladin, Acre, Toron, Beirut, Sidon, Nazareth, Caesarea, Nabulus, Jaffa (Yafo), and Ascalon (Ashqelon) within three months.

Saladin's main achievement was the capture of Jerusalem (1187). In stark contrast to the Christians who captured the city 87 years earlier, the Muslim reconquest was marked by the civilized and courteous behavior of Saladin and his troops. By 1189 the crusaders occupied only three cities in the entire Middle East. Saladin's conquest sparked the Third Crusade, which was led by the famed military leader Richard I (the Lion-Hearted). The clash between these two great powers ended in a draw, but a treaty was drawn up that allowed Christians to visit holy sites in the area. Saladin died a peaceful death in Damascus in 1193.

Achievement

Saladin's every act was inspired by an intense and undivided mindset to the idea of jihad, or holy war, taking the example from the struggle of the prophet and the companions. He opened colleges and mosque and created a system to support the quest of knowledge. He invited scholars and commissioned them to write edifying works both in religious topics as well as academics' interest. Through religious principle, which was a genuine part of his own way of life, he tried to re-create in his own realm some of the same zeal and enthusiasm that had proved so valuable to the first generations of Muslims when, five centuries before, they had conquered half the known world.

In wars against the Christian crusaders, he achieved final success with the disciplined capture of Jerusalem (Oct. 2, 1187), ending its 88-year occupation by the Franks. He demonstrated his high standard of moral value by offering chance for the Christian Troops to leave within 40 days.

His chivalrous behavior was noted by Christian writers, especially in the accounts of the siege of Kerak in Moab, and despite being the enemies of the Crusaders he won the respect of many of them, including Richard the Lionheart; rather than becoming a hated figure in Europe, he became a celebrated example of the principled leader.

The Interesting Origins Of Educational Wooden Toys

One would think with all the bright gadgets and gimmicks overloading children's senses in today's toy market, they wouldn't have any time for the simpler things in life. This is not the case, as wooden toys are still as popular as they ever were. Toys made from wood have a certain straightforwardness about them that encourages a child to use their imagination. It doesn't matter whether they are painted bright colors or natural, kids love to play with them.

A Brief History of Wooden Toys

Archaeologists have reported finding spinning tops made from wood as evidence that wooden toys have been around since ancient times. Hand crafted dolls and animals have been found which were made for children in dating back as far as 1100BC. Wood for toy making would have been their first choice since it is so readily available and not hard to work with. Wooden building sets, dolls houses, jack-in-the-boxes and jig saw puzzles are all wooden toys designed in the 1800's which are still very popular today.

Toy Peddlers

It was in the sixteenth century that Germany started producing toys for trade. The men who made them would travel around the country selling them as they went. They were time consuming to make, and were considered a treat or gift for unforgettable events. Some craftsmen were lucky to be enlisted to make toys for the royals, and were paid well for their work.

Educational Wooden Toys

Whenever we think of wooden toys we think of the little blocks with the alphabet painted on them or engraved into the wood. Toys that children could learn from date back as far as the eighteenth century in the UK. When adults saw how much a child could develop their imagination playing with the blocks, they sought out more miniature friends for them. Small hand crafted animals and dolls then became more common.

If you don't think alphabet blocks then you definitely think wooden trains when you hear about vintage toys. It was in the nineteenth century that a lot more thought was put into creating children's toys. Craftsmen developed revolutionary items like the jack in the box, wooden army men, complex houses for girls dolls and wind up toys with moving parts. They made trucks and trains with tracks and just about anything appropriate they could to make children feel like miniature versions of their parents.

Wooden Building Toys

The twentieth century saw a boom in the building industry, both commercial and domestic. It seemed relevant, with so many father's going to work, that a range of toys be bought out for children who wanted to be like their dads. Interlocking and interchangeable pieces that came in sets so children could build things is what they released. Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys are two companies who produced these wooden toys, and they are still around today.

There are so many flashing, plastic, battery operated toys in stores that it comes to the point where they all seem to blend into one. It is so lovely to see a child surrounded with hi tech toys and their eyes still light up when a wooden train is introduced. They may be more expensive because they aren't mass produced in Asia, but they pass the test of time and have great benefits in stimulating a child's individuality and creativity. They are also classic decorations as well.

Summary:

Still nowadays wooden toys are the favorite for many children. They are great for developing creativity and many are designed to educate them as well. Don't fall for the hype of cheap five minute wonder toys, but instead invest in quality that will last lifetimes.
