Origin Of Aquariums - The True Story

The Origin Of Acquariums

In 1369, the Chinese Emperor, Hungwu crafted porcelain tubs in which Goldfish were kept. Over the years, these tubs became smaller and smaller until they reached the size of the Acquariums we have now. In 1841, after 500 years the world came to know of an Aquarium. At that time it was used for toy fish and different plants for an aesthetic value.

As of now, looking after an acquarium and keeping it as an aesthetic piece, is a great hobby that about 60 million people enjoy, out of which 40% have 2 tanks if not more. After stamp collecting, this could be the next best hobby that people have taken to.

Acquariums As An Aesthetic Piece

Once people set up an Acquarium, they feel the need to make it look as beautiful as possible.. Plants, rocks and driftwood are used to make it look as attractive as possible. It should be noted that the fish in the tank should be comfortable with the plants. In order to do this, it is best to make a study of the environment of the fish and choose plants accordingly.

It is a great idea to use living plants – the manner in which they float is a pleasure to watch. But there are some herbivorous fish that thrive on living plants,so if that is the case, you should consider using artificial plants instead. There are innumerable varieties available, and they look so real that sometimes it is impossible to tell the difference.

Driftwood is extremely popular for saltwater acquariums. The only trouble is that it is very costly, and so many people go to the beach to get them. If that is the case, ensure that you wash the driftwood thoroughly, and keep it in a quarantine tank instead of the main one – do this for at least 2 weeks, so that you can match the PH levels. Also rocks could be used to hold the driftwood down.

While using rocks, there are some rocks with very sharp ends – this can be harmful to the fish and cut it’s belly which is very tender. The idea is to keep the fish as safe as possible. If you are putting a cluster of rocks together, you will need to glue them with safe silicone, so that they don’t come apart and hurt the fish. Also, soft rocks are not advisable as they break up in the water. The fish need to be safe, so you will need to provide the ambience while keeping in mind that the fish remain comfortable.

Once you have completed acquascaping your saltwater acquarium, maybe you could consider entering an acquascaping contest which would add to your pleasure.

World Cup 2010 Comment: “Oranje” Germans Set The Pace In Group D
In our World Cup Comment series, individual writers at Goal.com offer their views on the hot World Cup topics of the day with local expertise and a global outlook...

A significant change which occurred on 28 August 2007 in German Immigration law, has received little media coverage but could positively affect many. This change in the immigration law principally allows citizens from European Union member states to retain their passports when adopting German nationality, and for German citizens to retain their passports when taking on the citizenship of another European Union member state.

Receiving little media attention, it is a concern that many German nationals are not aware of these benefits that they are now entitled to after the changes in German immigration law, which took effect almost three years ago.

Prior to the reforms, German citizens who applied for and acquired citizenship of another European Union member state or of Switzerland effectively relinquished their right to German citizenship and had to forfeit their German passports. This was subject to the opportunity to apply, prior to their citizenship application and for a fee, for permission to retain their German passport. However, since the change in law in August 2007, a German national will no longer lose their German citizenship if he or she acquires the citizenship of another EU member state or of Switzerland, whether by application or naturalization.

Equally, a EU member state national or a national of Switzerland can now apply for German citizenship without having to give up his or her member state passport. It is thought that this change could strongly impact on Swiss-German relations, as Switzerland remains a popular destination for German immigrants.

Since these changes came into force there has been an increase in the number of people applying for German citizenship. This increase has not however been sizable, as citizens of Non-European Union member states are still required to forfeit their nationality when applying for a German passport, as are German nationals applying for the citizenship of countries outside of the European Union and Switzerland. Formal permission from the German government to retain your German nationality ('Beilbehaltunsgenehmigung') can still be sought for those who wish to become nationals of Non-European Union countries.

It is important to be aware that these changes are applicable only to those who applied for another citizenship after the changes took effect, and not to those who made applications for the citizenship of another European Union member state prior to 28 August 2007.

Any German nationals who wish to lodge applications for British citizenship are advised to seek professional legal advice. Gherson and team of immigration solicitors and paralegals are ideally placed to provide advice on this dual citizenship for German nationals and any other issues relating to immigration law.

Oliver Stone apologizes for remarks about Jews, Holocaust
Oliver Stone is now backpedaling after several less-than-kosher statements he made about Jews,  Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin in an interview that ran in the Sunday Times of London over the weekend. This may take some time to parse out, so get your sliderules ready. While discussing his new documentary South of the Border , which discusses U.S. foreign policy in South America and is a bit cozy ...

Do you have to pass an art history German exam? And you're looking for a book that is actually all about History and art history? Read on to find out the scoop on one that fits the bill but unfortunately out of print.

Fortunately, you can still get a copy if you look hard enough. It won't be cheap though.

"Reading Knowledge in German" by Mary L. and Hans-Peter Apelt

In some ways, it is very much like the German for Reading Knowledge by Jannach book, which is, more specifically, "German for Reading Knowledge" by

Hubert Jannach and Richard Alan Korb, and which is also by far my favorite book.

Still, there are very similar -- one of them must have gotten the concept from the other one. Or maybe it's just that it's really the best format for the task at hand.

The Apelt book has a huge plus: it's primarily about history and art history. So you will get your words just by working with this book.

It also has a big drawback:

It is FAR skimpier than the Jannach book on explanations, and it also doesn't give you nearly as much help with the more challenging areas, including that infamous Extended Adjective Construction.

In fact, it has just one single chapter on that topic, while the Jannach book devotes multiple chapters to it, as well it should.

So if you can round up a copy, it's a terrific book to have, and I highly recommend that you use it for additional practice and to get more familiar with the vocabulary. But I'd definitely also get the Jannach book and use that as the main workbook.

Still nervous about your German test? Or maybe you just want to practice your German. Either way, if you want more of those tips, please feel free to sign up for my new FREE German Translation Tips at http://www.GermanTranslationCoach.com

And if you're stressed about the test, you can get my stress-busting strategies report and reclaim your inner calm so you can focus on the task at hand.

Labor historian questions West Virginia museum’s coal mining displays
A slim, steel object resembling a rusty bayonet juts out of a wall in West Virginia’s new state museum, a part of a series of exhibits meant to portray the history of coal mining in the Mountain State.

Many consumers today are dealing with a situation they have never previously experienced. Perhaps you are one of these people? There are a variety of factors that can lead to indebtedness such as mismanagement of finances, failure to save for an emergency, job loss and medical injury or illness. Regardless of the cause, the end result is all to often the same; stress, anxiety and constant calls from collection agencies. Finding yourself with too many bills and not enough money is hard enough, however facing each day with the knowledge you have to deal with collection calls can be overwhelming.

Fortunately, debtors do have rights and it is important you are aware of these rights to avoid being harassed or abused by debt collectors. Here are a few of those rights provided by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that you should be aware of when confronted with collection efforts.

Collection agencies are not allowed to contact you before 8AM or after 9PM unless you have authorized them to do so. They are also forbidden from contacting you at your place of employment if you have expressed to them either verbally or in writing that you are not permitted to receive personal calls at work. Finally, they are prohibited from harassing or abusing you with constant calls or threatening messages.

Debt collectors must not relay your financial information to any third party such as your employer, family members, neighbors or friends. The only people they are authorized to discuss your debt with is yourself or your attorney.

Debt collectors are required by law to provide a validation notice which details the name of the creditor owed, how much you owe and what steps you can take if you want to validate the debt (in the event you do not agree you owe the debt). This notice must be provided within five days of the creditor first contacting you.

Debt collectors cannot lie about their identity or actions that will be taken against you as a result of your debt. This includes claims to be anyone other than who they are, or lying to you about the debt you owe, how much you owe or threatening you with legal action- when no such action will take place. Post dated checks cannot be deposited prior to the date on the check.

Other actions that you should be aware of include:

*You cannot be arrested for not paying debt- unless that debt was incurred illegally.

*Your wages, assets and property can not be seized without a court judgment.

*Many Federal benefits cannot be garnished, see the IRS website for a complete list.

If you feel your rights have been violated, you should report the violation to your state Attorney Generals' office as well as the Federal Trade Commission. Debt collectors have a right to attempt to collect a debt, as long as they do so without the bounds of the law.

S. Mckenzie works for Hamilton Debt Relief, a debt settlement company based out of New York that offers a service to help eliminate credit card debt for consumers facing a financial hardship.

This is not surprising considering it is one of the most popular tourist destinations and convention meccas in the world. So how do you go about determining which restaurants to choose for your dining experiences? There are several options: 1) You can go to Google and type in the type of cuisine that you want along with the word Orlando.
