In rare, revealing memo, Vatican rebukes cardinal
ROME β€” The Vatican drew aside, for a brief and puzzling moment, the thick veil that covers its internal business. It issued an extraordinary communique Monday chastising a powerful cardinal who had criticized another powerful cardinal β€” proof of a battle inside the Vatican walls that mirrors the anger over sex abuse raging outside them.

Sell Homes with St. Joseph

There are quite a few superstitions in the world of real estate, but none seem to have captured the public consciousness like the legend of St. Joseph. According to conventional lore, burying a statue of the saint will cause your house to be most advantageously sold within a short period of time. While this has never been verified by an independent study, enough people believe (or are desperate enough to try anything) that some businesses have sprung up around the sale of statuettes and instructions on how to place them on the property.

There are a number of theories on the origins of this custom. Medieval nuns on quest for a convent were held to have buried a medal of St. Joseph while asking for intercession. Some people think that it dates to German carpenters who reputedly enhanced the foundations of the houses they built with a statue of St. Joseph and a prayer. There is a story about a Brother Andre of Montreal, who wanted to purchase property on Mount Royal for a chapel, but could not get the landowners to sell until he started planting St. Joseph medals on the land. However, none of these stories have any documentable origins.

St. Joseph is the patron saint of carpenters, the Catholic Church, the dying, fathers, pregnant women, social justice, wheelwrights, and workers. The carpentry part seems to have been extended to real estate in general, then specifically selling it. The first modern documented account of burying a statue in his purported likeness was in 1984. The 90s saw the practice become intensely popular, with a number of email letters and anecdotes making the rounds of email, message boards and websites.

So popular did this tradition become, that some businesses are making money selling little kits that feature a plastic St. Joseph, recommended prayers and instructions on how to bury him to achieve the saintliest position for holy home selling. There are a number of beliefs on how and where the statue should be buried, some involving specific instructions on where the statue is to be placed, where it should face and how deep it should be buried.

At best, the St. Joseph story can be seen as apocryphal, as there is no evidence that burying a cheap, plastic statuette is going to miraculously make one’s home sell. However, if one is a devout believer in saints’ ability to change lives and fortunes, it can’t really hurt to try.

Media Plan of the Year 2010
In the best of economic times, the U.S. Postal Service goes up against daunting competition in the form of FedEx and UPS, iconic brands that have traditionally outspent the USPS 2-to-1.

Fighting Knives: Knife Basics

Fighting knives are a type of knife that are designed to be used for fighting – self defense, military, law enforcement, etc. If you are planning on purchasing a fighting knife, there are a few characteristics that you will want to consider:

Blade Length

Most fighting knives have a blade between 5” and 8" long. This length is short enough to be easily controlled and handles with one hand, while long enough to be effective and deadly.

Blade Shape

The two primary blade shapes used for fighting knives are Tanto and Clip. The tanto blade has an angled point (instead of a curved one) and is primarily designed for stabbing and piercing. A good clip blade can be used for slashing/cutting or stabbing/piercing.

Blade Material

Usually, you want a knife made of a quality high carbon steel. Choose a steel that is strong and holds an edge well. Usually, you will not need to the blade to be stainless steel. Just keep it oiled.

Handle Construction

Fighting knives usually need to have a quillon, or other guard to keep your hand from accidentally sliding up onto the blade of the knife. The handle should be easy to grip firmly and use in a variety of positions.

Price

You don't need to go broke to buy a good fighting knife. Most good knives run anywhere from about $40 to $150. You can find a few for less than this, and there are quite a few more expensive ones, but you certainly don't need to spend over $100 or so to get a good knife. A good example of a popular, quality fighting knife is the US Marine Corp Fighting Knife, which is made by Kabar. You can this knife for well under $100.

Laws

You should be aware that laws regarding knives vary from area to area. You should check your state and local laws before your purchase a fighting knife.

Rare Model

what is a good war movie(with swords, bow and arrows)? Similar to "the last legion" and "lord of the rings?"

"Kingdom of Heaven"

It's a newer release, so it has all the modern visual effects.

After Foreclosure, It’s Optimism in the Round
Bill Hanney is breathing new life and direction into the North Shore Music Theater, in Beverly, Mass., which was shuttered last year.

Trains are not just toys for kids, especially now in a time where the hobby of collecting model railroads (or more popularly known as locomotives) are on the rise to become one of the world's oldest and most popular hobbies. The G scale locomotive, a large kind of locomotive, is gaining popularity as it is literally a big toy for a big boy.

Why are G scale trains so popular to hobbyists? G scale trains are popular for its large size (it is the largest of the most popular scales). The G scale is a part of the group of large scale trains which all run on a Number 1 gauge track (45 mm between rails). These model locomotives are calculated by the ratio of the toy train to a real train. The G scale locomotive boasts a ratio of 1:22 which means it is one twenty-second of the size of an actual train prototype. This means that it only takes 22 G scale locomotives lined up to match the prototype in length.

There are other popular types of large miniature trains. The O scale (still a part of the large train group) has a ratio of 1:48, lower than that of the G scale (actually half the size of the G scale). However, almost nothing can match the G scale locomotives in size. These locomotives are extremely large compared to regular toy trains.

G in the term G scale is believed to come from the term Garden Railroading. It can also be because of the German word groß. Groß literally means large which is appropriate in view of the fact that these models started out in Germany. These models are about 26.7 inches in length and 6.0 inches in height.

The first G scale locomotive was pioneered by Ernst Paul Lehmann. Patentwerk, a German company, referred to as Lehmann Gross Bahn (Lehmann Big Train in English) was founded on this type of train. Patentwerk started out in 1881. The company then branched out to the USA where LGB of America was founded. Aristocraft and Bachmann are only some of the well-known manufacturers of G scales in America.

G scale locomotives are also perfect for children since small trains are not suitable for kids. These trains are easily broken due to their small size. With their small parts and potential choking hazards, these trains aren't kid's toys. The N scale is only about 4.8 inches in length and about 1.1 inches in height, thus making it a small train unfit for kid use.

G scale locomotives are recommended for outdoor types of hobbyists. Since G scale trains are very durable and are suitable for gardens. The G scale tracks are usually brass-made so these types of trains do not need to be maintained a lot. Sometimes, a solitary swab of clean cloth on the tracks is all you need to keep it clean. These big locomotives are popular in the market nowadays due to the fact that they are very durable, thus making them last for a long, long period of time and can be handed down to different generations.

The hobby of collecting miniature locomotives is a good way to release the inner child in you. Especially with the G scale model train, it is truly a big toy for the big boys.

James Stonebright is a model train enthusiast and loves collecting the different types of toy model train. For more great information on G Scale Model Trains, visit http://www.ModelTrainsGalore.com.

Rare Old Coins Value can be a very lucrative investment for sure. Learning the value of rare old coins and where to find them could prove to be a treasure chest of our times. Something quite unique about rare old coins and their value is much similar to real estate, the price is always rising.

Unlike other commodities, real estate and old coins seem to be on a different path for investors, it's will they appreciate in value, but rather how fast. Determining old coins and their value is not as simple as one would expect. The key to appraising their value depends on the buyer's perspective. If you confront a buyer with a special taste for gold bullion, chances are another rare coin may not perk his interest or his evaluation of the value. While locating a coin collector that does find interest in the coins you have could create a greater appreciation and value immediately.

Determining rare old coins value is an art in itself. It is wise to market for the value by advertising to an extent for the right buyer. There is where your value lies. It is suggested that you locate coin shows and mingle among the dealers and discuss the coins you have but only from a third person position until you find a dealer that has a particular interest in your type of coins. Only after you have a clear understanding that that particular dealer has an interest do you divulge what you possess. The conversation will take some interesting turns after it is clear also to the dealer, that you possess these valued coins.

As stated before, determining rare coins value, depends greatly on the buyer, that being said, the next step in gaining a greater value for your rare old coins is to produce a coin to the buyer that is not the most prized of your collection. This a baiting approach that will further expose the interest of the coin buyer. If you mention you have others that are of better or more rare quality, you have just increased the buyer's interest and very likely your appraisal of your rare old coins collection.

The rare old coins market is always attentive to some particular vintage, condition, and rarity, so it is highly advisable to shop your buyers to gain the best return for your investment of rare old coins and their value.

Jim is an online writer with a flair for the unusual at times and his studies carry him from one hot topic to another. Today he shares some interesting tips on rare old coins and their value. http://wealthsmith.com/rare-old-coins-value.htm

Grogan Auction Sees Up And Down Action
:Up and down auctions seem a trend of late. At the June 6 Grogan & Company auction, phones all over the gallery were called into action for lot two, a pencil and charcoal study of a woman by German artist Adolf Friedrich Erdmann von Menzel.

Cancers that can spread from their original locations are called secondary cancers. This process, called metastasizing, moves the cancers through the bloodstream, lymphatic system, or by direct extension to a new location. One or many of the cancerous cells of the primary cancer (where the disease originated) can break off and slip into the bloodstream or lymphatic system to reach other organs.

Cancerous cells in the lungs as well can appear there without having originated there; in children, cancers of the lungs usually manifest through this process. Cancer that appears in the lungs but did not originate there is called secondary lung cancer. Even though it affects the lungs, this cancer is named according to the type of cancer it originated from, the primary cancer. For example, breast cancer that spreads to the lungs and becomes a secondary lung cancer would still be considered breast cancer.

While nearly every type of cancer has the ability to metastasize and spread to the lungs, some do so more commonly than others. Secondary lung cancer is usually a result of bladder, breast, prostate, or colon cancer. Sarcoma, Wilms tumor and neuroblastoma also tend to migrate to the lungs.

In addition to being a disease in itself, is also usually an indication that the primary cancer has reached an advanced stage, though this is not always the case. Signs of lung cancer include persistent cough, breathlessness, coughing up blood, and chest pain. These symptoms, in addition to being similar to those for primary lung cancer, also mimic several less serious diseases. A diagnosis of secondary lung cancer may therefore require x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, or biopsies.

Symptoms of cancers can interrupt daily activities for sufferers. But there are ways to manage and treat the symptoms. Medication can help address symptoms such as breathlessness, cough and chest pain. Other symptoms must be managed by the patient through awareness. Some patients begin to fear they will choke, due to their increased difficulty with breathing, but should be aware that this is unlikely. Others may be distressed by coughing up blood, but should know that coughing up a little blood is not unusual to patients with cancer in the lungs. Only those coughing up large amounts of blood need to seek treatment for this symptom.

Cancer of the lungs can also cause a build up of fluid in the lungs, a condition termed pleural effusion. This fluid may be drained out of the lungs to relieve pain and difficulty breathing, though it may build up again over time. Treatment for lung cancer is similar to that for primary lung cancer, and includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. However, chemotherapy is the preferred treatment option. This is because as a secondary cancer, it is an indication that the primary cancer has spread into the bloodstream. In such cases, removing visible tumors through surgery is not effective, as other cancerous cells can be present in the body without being visible. Chemotherapy can target even those cells CT scans cannot see, making it the most common treatment choice.

However, a cure is unlikely and the five-year survival rate for those diagnosed with secondary lung cancer is not promising. The cancer can sometimes be cured via surgery, but this outcome is rare.

Adam Bradley is a book publisher of How-To and information books. While doing research on asbestos and secondary lung cancer options, he was shocked by the tremendous amount of bad information, scams, and bogus agencies. He felt that having to spend countless hours sorting articles and web pages just to find help during a period when time is of the essence was absurd. To help the victims and families of those exposed to asbestos, he and his research team compiled this information and offer a free 15 part Mini-Course at: Asbestos Cancer Resources.com.
