Sword Vietnam

Has anyone ever threatened you with a deadly weapon?

For me it was when I was like 8 or 9. This guy who was a vietnam vet who lived in the neighborhood came out with a butcher knife and started yelling at all the kids outside that he was going to kill them.

yes a few times

Farewell fit for a hero: Vietnam veteran finally laid to rest after 39-year wait
Pallbearers carry the remains of Chief Warrant Officer Donald L. Wann to a horse-drawn caisson after the eulogy in Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Wann, who had been missing in action since he was shot down in Vietnam in 1971, was buried Saturday with full military honors.

When you start the fabulous hobby of sword collecting one of the first things you have to come to terms with is the words with which the various parts of the sword are known. This article will describe the following items:

  • Pommel
  • Grips
  • a
    Quillons
  • Cutaway
  • Fuller
  • Blade
  • Point

Starting at the very top of the sword there is either a round or square item at the top of the handle and this in known as the pommel. The pommel performs two very useful functions.

The first is to stop your hand from slipping from the handle, and in fact your hand is sandwiched between two components of the sword, the pommel and the quillons, whose collective responsibilities are to stop your hand from slipping off either into your own blade or off the sword completely.

The pommel has another function which is to form a weapon for close quarters combat. It is used to strike down on the head of an opponent when they are close enough. This is where the term pommelling comes from and it means to strike down upon someone. The word is originates from the french word pommel as do so many words in the sword dictionary.

The next part of a sword is the handle or grips whose name describes the function for which it is used and that is to hold the sword.

The next part is the quillons, which is always spoken of in the plural as there are two halves of a quillon the left hand side and the right hand side. The quillons job is to both protect the hand from the blade and also to stop the hand from slipping off the sword.

Quillons can be made to look quite ornate and in the case of the old swashbuckling swords of the buccaneers they were very large and round and quite similar to the quillons used on an epee which is the sword used for the sport of fencing.

There is also something which in modern language terms would be described as a cutaway but in more traditional terms is known as a fuller. The job of the fuller is to give the blade flexibility and strength and also leads to a reduction in weight as well. It runs the whole length of the blade and is best described as a groove.

The blade is quite obviously for slashing or cutting and does not really require any further description as to the functionality. A more interesting perspective about the blade is what it can be constructed from. Whilst most blades are steel you can get everything from glass to gold although these more ornate structures are for ceremonial purposes rather than battle situations.

And finally there is the point which is the business end of the sword at the very tip of the sword.

The phrase "do you get my point" is believed originate from this part of the sword as in when asking someone if they understood what you mean, as in ancient times to get the point meant you really did understand what they meant.

My New York: Sid & Nancy
Dear Alan: Please prove that Sid did not kill Nancy. That was one of the last requests of Anne Beverley — mother of Sex Pistols bassist and punk icon Sid Vicious — before committing suicide in 1996. She wrote to British rock journalist Alan G. Parker, asking him to investigate her enduring...

As a guy who is most comfortable when in the shed using a power tool of some kind, or restoring an old classic car, fashion is not something that I used to think a lot about. If I'm honest I probably spent about 80% of my teenage years wearing strikingly similar combinations of jeans, t-shirts and hoodies. The years came and went, and the only thing that really changed about my attire was the colour of the hoodie!

This trend continued throughout my early twenties until something happened; I got married to an amazing woman who happens to be very well versed in the art of style and fashion, having worked for many years as a sales assistant in men's apparel. Today she is a successful Personal Stylist and she has helped me to change the way I look at style, and to think outside the realm of jeans and hoodies.

Don't worry, I have by no means become a mocha decaf skinny soy latte swilling fashionista, not that there is anything wrong with that. I am still most comfortable when I am holding a chainsaw or using a MIG welder, but I have started to see that guys don't have to be fashion experts to look good. Neither do you need to be overly wealthy, you just have to choose carefully and accept advice from the experts. You also need to be willing to step just slightly out of your normal comfort zone, and be willing to try wearing something other than just a t-shirt and jeans. Don't worry, nobody is going to make you wear a salmon coloured skin tight v-neck if that's not your thing, it's definitely not for me! There are however some really simple ways to spruce up your look as a guy, without feeling like you're out of your depth.

One of the simplest things you can do is to get yourself a nice leather jacket. The right leather jacket on a guy looks fantastic, and they are simply brilliant in cold weather - completely blocking out the icy winter gales. However, it is important to choose the right one - finding the right leather jacket is like finding the right partner, you need to find the one that is right for you. A good leather jacket will often outlast its owner, and for a lot of guys it becomes part of their signature look. So choose wisely! There are a huge range of leather jackets available, in all colours, shapes and styles. Once you start looking around for one you will also be startled at how they range in price. You can pick up a reasonable quality jacket on sale for around $250, and the price soars from there all the way up to $2000 and more.

My tips for choosing a leather jacket are simple;

Take Your Time

As I said, choosing a leather jacket is like choosing your life partner, it is not something you are advised to do on the spur of the moment! Do your research, shop around until you have found the colour and style that suits you. Get some advice from someone who has good fashion sense, and listen to what they have to say. If you don't know anyone who can help you in this regard, get some advice from a Personal Stylist - they will be able to pick out the style that suits you very quickly.

Don't Be Cheap

While you can easily get your hands on a leather jacket for under $112, it is not really something that I would advise. Remember, if you choose well this jacket is going to last for a long, long time. Rather than buying a cheap one that wears out after a year or so and then buying another one, bite the bullet and buy a good quality jacket to start with. The cost of a good jacket can range from $250 anywhere up to and above $2000, and how much you should spend on yours is really down to your budget. But I implore you, don't be cheap; if you buy a high quality jacket it will be a friend to you for life.

It's all fun and games until …
Things weren’t really better in my day. I mean, if you want to compare childhood to adulthood, that’s a no-brainer: Childhood wins hands down. You know it, I know it, and even today’s children know it.

A belt is a must-have accessory for every woman. It is functional yet aesthetically appealing. It lets you wear loose-fitted pants while looking posh at the same time. But pants are not the only clothes you can wear with a belt. You can also wear a belt on dress, skirt, or a pair of shorts. You can even wear it over formal attire. Moreover, a belt will instantly revamp your plain, boring outfit. So, don't go anywhere without wearing one! Anyway, there are a lot of belts you can find in stores. Be careful, though, because not all machine-made belts are durable. Handmade belts made of handmade leather are way better.

First of all, first-class handmade belts come from native cowhide English bridle leather. Usually, handmade leather that comes from the United States is excellent in quality. This handmade leather underwent a hot stuffing procedure that drives a natural combination of wax, grease, and oil deep into the hide fibers. In addition, handmade belts are meticulously done by skilled artisans who handle handmade leather carefully. This is why each belt is a work of art. Every belt has a story behind it. You can also say that handmade belts are the results of hard work and patience. They are really durable and long-lasting.

Moreover, when you buy handmade belts, you support the livelihood of artisans. These simple people devote a huge fraction of their time cutting handmade leather with the use of hand-operated equipments alone. They also pay attention to every little detail. Just imagine how laborious their tasks are. Handmade belts are not easily done. Then, you also help conserve the environment whenever you purchase handmade belts. Factories that produce artificial belts emit toxic substances which are harmful to humans, plants, and animals. Also, with handmade leather, you can be fairly sure that the animal it came from was treated humanely.

Nonetheless, when buying a belt, you need to consider a few important factors. If you want to accentuate your waistline, a wide handmade leather belt will do the trick. Wide handmade belts actually go well with any body type, so you do not need to worry about being fat or thin. If your figure if full, this belt will make you appear slimmer. If you are thin, this belt will emphasize your waistline and make you look fuller. Almost any kind of clothing also works well with a wide handmade leather belt. On the other hand, if you only want to use the belt as an accessory, a low-hanging belt will be ideal. Furthermore, when measuring for your belt, it is best if you will wear your jeans while measuring through the loops. This is to make sure that the belt is not too short or too long for you.
