What is Nu Metal?

A branch off of the heavy metal music tree is known as Nu Metal. This metal genre has been known to blend other features and styles of music into their own, like Hip Hop, Punk and Grunge. Nu metal bands commonly used melodic singing, aggressive vocals and forms of hardcore punk.

This term "nu metal" meaning "new metal" was introduced in a Spin magazine article. As time went on and the genre expanded the "new metal" term was changed to "nu metal." It was presented at the end of the movie "Get Thrashed." This metal genre was introduced by Korn in 1990 and has grown through the 90's into the year 2000.

Nu Metal popularity jumped when "Follow the Leader" Korn's third album release came out and sold for 9 million copies worldwide. Many Metal Music Bands began to rise up and be noticed. After the doors were opened for the nu metal community, nu metal bands came out to the public.

Once the nu metal community grew, the nu metal bands followed. Staind, Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit started to have success in the nu metal community after the release of Korn's "Follow the Leader" album. The start of nu metal bands came from the Los Angeles scene, like Static-X, Spineshank and Coal Chamber. The popularity of the nu metal community on the rise, bands like Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Soufly, Slipknot, Sevendust and Godsmack started to become more and more successful. Tours like Ozzfest, Family Values Tour and Lollapalooza started featuring nu metal bands in their lineup. The biggest tour that featured nu metal bands was the 30th anniversary of Woodstock that had mostly nu metal bands in the lineup.

The number of bands grew with time in the nu metal genre. Nu metal bands started releasing albums that earned the status of platinum, like Linkin Park, Papa roach, P.O.D and System of a Down. The nu metal community was at its high in 2001 when nu metal was the most popular metal music in American. Record tables were signing a majority of nu metal bands that approached them. With this explosion of new bands, it ended with bad quality of nu metal music.

Into the early years of 2000 nu metal's popularity died down and bands that started the wave wasn't selling their new albums as well as their previous ones. Nu metal came down from being at the top and metal lovers moved to a pop and emo punk metal. Most nu metal bands are still playing a similar style of music and staying in the genre, others have moved on.

Knife-wielding robber chased by machete-wielding owner
A would-be robber got a taste of his own medicine after trying to hold up an Orewa dairy yesterday.

One of the most important points to get right when river fishing for carp is to know exactly where to fish. In other words, location, location, location!

You want to locate a good feature somewhere along the river. These can be very similar to those found in lakes and ponds. Places where carp can hold up in piece and quiet are good places to start, especially if there is some kind of coverage.

Some features worth looking for are:

  • reed beds
  • overhanging trees
  • flowing water
  • water outlet or inlets

Overhanging trees and reeds can be common along a river so you may need to find those that have further potential to them. As an example, overhanging bushes or trees that are in places where the river meets another water body may be productive features. The currents often help deposit food sources around the edges where both the flows meet together.

Weed beds and lily pads can be some great features to find on rivers as well as in many lakes. The weed beds help "catch" and hold food items in place, thus, there is a reason why carp may come back to visit them on a regular basis.

Fast flowing water can be great places in the summer, the water gets oxygenated at these places and as a result draw in many carp. Weirs can also be a productive feature for carp fishing on rivers as well as large groups of moored boats. These offer carp some security and warmth, as well as food sources so don't be afraid to fish by moored up boats, especially during the colder months as boat owners may not use them as much. This makes these areas fairly quiet for carp to become settled for a few months.

Fishing the river margins can produce good results to. River margins will often drop-off quickly to form a shelf where food items can gather together and provide fish with regular supplies of food. Placing a fishing rig at the bottom of the shelf can produce numerous carp catches.

Other areas that can gather food items are in the snags. Margin snags on rivers will hold food items as they try to pass through. Snags also provide good shelter for many river carp. Learn more about fishing snags for large carp.

Remember that seeing carp jump out the water may not be the best way to select where to fish. On a river the carp can move out very quickly. I feel it may be best to stick to those features that have the potential to hold carp, such as those which offer a regular food source or coverage rather than waiting to see fish jump. By all means, cast to fish that jump once you are fishing, but I wouldn't use that sight as to where I choose to set up.

As a baiting tactic, I feel it's very important to pre-bait a potential swim 2 or 3 days before fishing the river. This is a great way to hold any passing carp in your chosen area. Pre-baiting also helps to "clear" the area from the smaller fish, and you can then present a bait better for when carp move in.

Keep in mind that river carp are much more active than those in lakes. This is because they need to constantly adjust themselves due to the water currents, and means they need to ingest more energy, and thus food. For this reason, a very good spot that provides them with regular food will be a potential river hotspot!

Wayne Mcgregor has had years of experience fishing for carp in the UK. He has caught carp from many types of lakes and pools around England. His website reveals tons of ideas and tactics on how to catch more carp.

Bloody Sunday report blames British soldiers fully
Relatives of 13 Irish demonstrators shot to death by British troops on Northern Ireland's Bloody Sunday cried tears of joy Tuesday as an epic fact-finding probe ruled that their loved ones were innocent and the soldiers entirely to blame for the 1972 slaughter.

Once you've completed an accent reduction course and learned some new sounds, you need to practice those sounds to improve your spoken English and make it a habit in everyday conversation.

Of course, you can plan get-togethers with your English speaking friends, and a fun activity to get everyone talking is to play a board game. Many board games will encourage interaction, and they are all great for practicing conversation, but there are a few that are particularly good for building your English pronunciation and vocabulary skills.

The harder you have to think about what you are going to say, the harder it is to remember to use the correct English pronunciation. That is what makes these games such great practice. And, they're lots of fun!

One of my personal favorites is Taboo. The object of the game is to get your teammates to guess a word written on your card, but you can't use the most common words to describe it. You have to find another way to tell what it is so your teammates can guess. For example, you may have the word "ladder", but you can't use the words "rungs, steps, paint, or high" to describe it. So you might say "an object you lean against your house when you need to get on the roof." Get the idea?

Another great game is Balderdash. You are given a card with a word on it and several definitions, but only one is the correct one. You also make up a definition for the word and ask the other players which one they think is correct. You get points for bluffing, or fooling, them when they choose your definition.

A third great game to build your vocabulary, descriptive skills, and knowledge of American culture, is Apples to Apples. In this game, each person gets noun cards with a person, place, or thing listed on them. An adjective card is placed in the middle and each person selects the noun card that they think goes best with the adjective. Here's the fun part: each person has to explain why they think their card is the best, and the person selected as the judge gets to decide whose is the best.

While these games are readily available and not too expensive, you could make up your own version of each of them with a good dictionary and some paper. To make a game similar to Taboo, you can choose some common words and list the words used in the definitions as the " not allowed " words.

A home version of Balderdash can be played with just a dictionary. You choose a word from the dictionary, read its definition, a definition of another word on the same page, and one you make up on your own.

For a comparison game like Apples to Apples, you need a stack of index cards and a list of nouns and adjectives. Write one word on each card, keeping the nouns and adjectives separate. Pass out five noun cards to each player, put an adjective card in the middle, and you're ready to go.

So, whether you choose the convenience of purchasing ready-made games or you decide to spend the time to make them up yourself, language games are a fun way to enjoy time with friends and to improve spoken English.

Comment on Professors as Intellectuals by Mr Bean
"We ought to start with a system of our own." Yup. Like changing MSA to MAS or Mana Ada Sistem.

Singers and bands have loyal fans that stick with them through the thick and thin of their music careers. Annual music awards are a time for the fans to vote for their favorite musicians and give praise for their musical talents. Singers and bands not only get recognition and some type of fancy award, but their careers are usually increased in ratings. There are genre specific music awards, general awards, and online awards. Here is a look at an Internet radio awards and some other music awards.

Perhaps the most well known awards for music are the Grammy Awards show. It is an annual award given to musicians that are the best in the business. They receive a golden gramophone statuette that solidifies their place in the entertainment industry and their outstanding achievements. The Grammy Award is presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The categories you can win an award for are: best new artist, album of the year, song of the year, and record of the year. These categories are also handed out awards for certain genres.

There are other awards that take place every year that are genre specific. They are less prestigious than the Grammy's but can still boost a musician's career and get just as much hype and audience attention. Other annual awards are the County Music Awards, the MTV Video Music awards, Texas Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, and the Brit Awards for example. These music awards recognize achievements for musicians who make music in their genre such as country, hip hop, or alternative music.

Internet Radio is just as influential as traditional radio for promoting a band or singer. Annually, there are the Internet Radio Awards that are held online. You can vote for your favorite Internet radio station, and they will win an award for best program online. If you have a radio station online you can either nominate yourself or one of your listeners can nominate for an award. It is a great way to see what stations there are around the world and to recognize the hard work that your favorite Internet station does day to day to provide you with great music to listen to.

If you want to discover music from around the world, or nominate an Independent musician for their work, you can vote for them at the International Online Music Awards. They are held every year, and you can vote for your favorite Independent band or singer to win an award. A lot of popular mainstream artists have been discovered by their online music. The Internet is very powerful for boosting someone's career.

What Does Functional Swords Mean?

I have been selling swords and knives for the past seven years, doing research and answering questions on the different types of swords and their uses. I’ve lived for six years in Europe and seven in the Orient seen and held swords that are easier dated in centuries rather than years.

Functional Swords are made to be used and to keep an edge. However, to really answer this question you have to explain the three kinds of swords people sell. The first is a Decorative Sword. These are swords made to decorate and for display only. They are very elaborate and are sometimes heavy replicas of historical, fantasy and movie swords. They often come with a sword plaque or stand for their display in the home or office. The blades are made of stainless steel and are generally highly polished. They look really good but are not designed or made for use. The second is a Costume Sword. While they have many of the same characteristics of a decorative sword, they are generally lighter and come with a sheath or some means of wearing the sword with a costume. The last is the Functional Sword.

So What's The Difference?

To keep it simple, quality is the thing that makes a functional or battle ready sword different. The quality of the materials, design and workmanship all play a part in a good functional sword. The materials are very important. High carbon steel is generally used to make the blades and other more durable materials are used for the guard, pommel and grips. High carbon steel is much harder. This type of steel is better suited for keeping an edge and less likely to break upon contact. The quality of the materials use in the guard, pommel and grip are of equal importance. A great high carbon steel blade with a pot metal or inferior guard and grip is a wall hanger.

Some people say the original design of a sword is the best. I agree. Swords were originally made for combat at the time they were designed and forged. Some like the samurai sword were designed to cut while others like the medieval claymore and long sword were made to bash and stab. The major design element is the tang. The tang is the part of the sword that attaches the blade to the guard, grip and pommel. Some decorative and costume swords use a rat-tail design. The blade is welded to the tang and not very durable. The best functional design is a full tang. Here the blade and tang are on piece of metal and less likely to break.

Workmanship may well be the most important. There are two basic ways to make a sword. They are machined and hand forged. The machined sword is almost entirely forged by a machine while the hand forged is done by a human. Purest say hand forged is the only way. However, I've seen many machined forged swords I feel more comfortable with. The key is micro-fractures. During the forging process sometime small fractures are left inside the sword. The more fractures there are the more likely the sword can break. There are many carbon steel swords not advertised as functional because of inconsistency. One sword might be great the next might not hold up. You take your chances when you buy these swords for use. One last note on design, a practical sword is made for stage plays and reenactments where safety is the key. Practical swords have rounded or dull edges and points.

Functional swords can cost much more than decorative or costume swords. Prices can run from less than $ 100.00 for an entry level sword to thousands for a made to order sword. Prices are also based on the degree of functionality. An entry level sword can cost from under $ 100 to $ 200. These are light duty swords which are great for a beginner. A medium duty sword or battle ready sword can cost up to $ 1000 and are usually used in reenactments and plays. Heavy duty swords can cost thousands. They can be used for any purpose but are better suited for extended use as in a nightly stage combat plays. After being in the US Army for 21 year, I can tell you anything can be broken. No matter how well a sword is made abuse, neglect and improper use will damage or break any sword. I'm not talking about small dings in the sharp edges. Some carbon steels are so hard it’s almost impossible to sharpen them. Most swords are forged so the edges are softer and can be sharpened. Please consult a qualified fight director on the proper use and quality of weapons needed for heavy use in stage plays.

I hope this helps to explain the term Functional Swords. One rule to use in selecting a sword is safety first. You are buying a weapon and get what you pay for, price should always be second.
