Bad Day for the WSJ
A recurrent theme in my articles has been that our current economic system is intended to steal your wealth and that a vast amount of information being taught as economics is intended to justify this stealing and to trick you into falling for its program.

I would sometimes refer to the condition as middle child personality instead of middle child syndrome, mainly because I do not believe it is a sickness or disease, rather I see it as a special need.

Characteristics of Middle Children

Technically, a middle child is an individual who is born in between two or more siblings. Being born in between is a bigger problem than what we think. Before we cite the characteristics, let us take a brief view of the some birth order traits, here goes. The eldest child is the leader, often he has strong decisive qualities that allow him to make firm decisions. This may be due to the expectations and special attention given to him by his parents. The youngest child is often lax and confident, probably the loudest and sometimes spoiled because the parents have used up their energies disciplining the others. The youngest is not much pressured than the eldest but never the less, she is given the attention she deserves. The middle child is then left with the biggest problem, what role could he/she take in the family?

The middle one, unlike the others, is not given much attention. The following are just some characteristics that define middle children. Note that not all of them or maybe even none may be observed in a middle. The middle has low self-esteem. He needs support for anything he does, sometimes talents are wasted when he does not pursue his dreams. The middle has a feeling of emptiness. She is always lonely and is jealous of others. This is a very broad trait, since it affects every aspect of her life. She may be a little weird, unfriendly and even worse, psychotic because of this feeling of emptiness. The two traits mentioned above can interact differently with different personalities. For example, an introvert middle child may prove to be more depressed and lonely than the extrovert middle child. There are a lot of possibilities for middle children, but the results are mostly negative.

Note: There are a lot of cases where middle children do not possess middle child personality. In some cases, attention is given to the middle one. For example, the middle one is the only girl and she is treated like a baby. Another example would be when the eldest is the laid back type who is a big loser, the middle then would take the role of the eldest as the leader.

The Possible Causes

There are two main causes of having middle child personality, identity crisis and lack of emotional support. Identity crisis is very common to all, it is something that we continue to struggle with. In fact, everyone wishes to be different so nothing can actually be done with it. The second is lack of emotional support. Because the eldest and youngest are the common favorites, the middle child is not given any support or attention. This unloved feeling makes them less confident and envious of others.

Is there a Solution?

There are proven solutions in preventing middle child syndrome, but severe cases of the condition may prove to be very tricky. There are a lot of opinions stated regarding this matter, I will only share my personal opinion. The middle child suffers from low self-esteem and is envious of others. Some say that they should be given the love and attention that was due a long time ago. I believe that this will only worsen the case, he/she should be aware of the situation and resolve the problem from within, by overcoming his emotions that were kept from childhood and by starting a new life. But that is just my opinion. Comments are very much appreciated. You can visit my site by following the link below.

Acoustic Shadow (sometimes called Silent Battle) is a strange thing. It is a phenomenon where sound is unheard close to the cause of the sound, but the same sound is heard a far distance away from its source. With a unique combination of factors such as wind, weather, temperature, land topography, forest or other vegetation, and elevation, battle sounds are not heard at a distance they normally would clearly be heard.

The distance the sound is heard may be great, even hundreds of miles, yet nearby (sometimes mere miles away), the sounds are not heard. Battles where the Acoustic Shadow phenomenon occurred in the Civil War are Gettysburg, Seven Pines, Iuka, Fort Donelson, Five Forks, Perryville, and Chancellorsville.

Acoustic Shadow could have a profound effect on a battle. During the Civil War, it was common for armies to be spread out over large distances and timely communication between the split parts of an army was crucial to battlefield success. Army commanders must make decisions based on current knowledge of the situation before them. The sound of a battle would be a form of communication, signaling to a Civil War commander and his staff where a battle is taking place, and what troops (including enemy) may be involved. If Acoustic Shadow hides battle action from being heard by a commander, then communication has been lost and dire consequences may follow as the commander does not respond as needed to the battlefield situation.

Examples of Acoustic Shadow During Civil War Battles:

  • Battle of Gaines's Mill - More than 91,000 men were engaged in battle at Gaines's Mill, Virginia on June 27, 1862. Confederate commanders and troops were less than two miles from the battlefield and could plainly see the smoke and flashes from the guns and artillery, but not a sound could be heard of the battle for two hours. Strangely, the battle sounds from the Battle of Gaines's Mill were easily heard in Staunton, Virginia over one hundred miles away.
  • Five Forks - Fives Forks was fought from March 30 to April 1, 1865 and was part of the Appomattox Campaign. Confederate Generals George Pickett and Fitzhugh Lee were enjoying a shad bake with other generals north of Hatcher's Run when the battle of Five Forks began a short distance away. Because of Acoustic Shadow, Pickett and Fitzhugh Lee were unaware a fight was under way. Pickett finally responded, but arrived late for the battle. Pickett and Fitzhugh Lee have been criticized by Civil War historians (please see Lee's Lieutenants, III, 665-670) for not acting on "the dread immediacy of the crisis" (ibid., 665) at Five Forks.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg - The battle sounds from Gettysburg fought on July 1, 2, and 3, 1863 could be heard over one hundred miles away in Pittsburgh, but were not heard only ten miles from the battlefield.

Anti-war activists to stage Budget day protests
The Government will face a series of Budget day demonstrations today by groups opposed to public spending cuts and the war in Afghanistan.

There are some people who believe that the reason the United States is so successful is because we are masters of war. Not long ago I was told that this is why we have the economic might, high standard of living, and the greatest nation today. I completely disagree. Oh, I agree that we have a high standard of living, economic success, and that we are the greatest nation, but I don't agree it's because we are masters of war.

You see, we are masters of almost everything we do, and since we have been in wars, we have become quite good at that too, why wouldn't a group of successful people become good at the things they do? We are also the most innovative, inventive, and creative people in the world as well, which doesn't have anything to do with being masters of war. In fact, one could say that our innovations in military technology have helped us in wartime, which is saying the that innovative spirit came first.

The reality is that when I talk with people all over the world, I find them to be less than innovative in thinking, less creative, and it's probably due to the liberty, freedom, and ability to pursue our own interests, happiness, and whatever turns us on (as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else). The freedom to do that obviously includes a strong defense to prevent that quality of life from being taken away, but it is also the standards and ideals we have set for ourselves that make it so.

Creativity and innovation in defense is important too. Without the creative thinking and innovation, you cannot continue to stay ahead of your adversaries. The Creativity didn't come from war, it came from people. And the people who valued the freedom and society turned on that creativity and innovative spirit to rise to the occasion during war time, because we can and because we must.

We have more innovative genes in the US than elsewhere because those who have those genes came here, being unfulfilled in their original domiciles, and they had offspring and those genes live on. Do you ever study evolutionary migration theories? It seems it is a worthy thing to study, the creative genius and innovative spirit is part of what makes us great, and the reality that we have become masters of war is because of it.

If we lived in a peaceful world, one without conflict or wars, I have absolutely NO DOUBT that the US would be at the top of the game. Besides much of the US growth has come from population dynamics and economics, previously, we'd have succeeded eventually in spite of our selves anyway, but luckily we've made some decent decisions along the way.

The United States of America is good at many things, and our strong military, well that's just one of them, albeit an important part of maintaining all we are and all we've built. Please consider this, personally, I'd like to think the USA is good at almost everything, that's why I love it.

Simply put, trademarks are for goods while service marks are for services. When discussing either, it is common to use the term "trademark", even when discussing a service use, because the handling of either is interchangeable by both the USPTO and all 50 Secretary of State Offices. The USPTO says that a "service mark is the same as a trademark except that it identifies and distinguishes the source of a service rather than a product. The terms 'trademark' and 'mark' are often used to refer to both trademarks and service marks." Let's look at each term in more detail. Trademark: The USPTO's definition: trademark "protect words, names, symbols, sounds, or colors that distinguish goods...
