Origin Of Aquariums - The True Story

The Origin Of Acquariums

In 1369, the Chinese Emperor, Hungwu crafted porcelain tubs in which Goldfish were kept. Over the years, these tubs became smaller and smaller until they reached the size of the Acquariums we have now. In 1841, after 500 years the world came to know of an Aquarium. At that time it was used for toy fish and different plants for an aesthetic value.

As of now, looking after an acquarium and keeping it as an aesthetic piece, is a great hobby that about 60 million people enjoy, out of which 40% have 2 tanks if not more. After stamp collecting, this could be the next best hobby that people have taken to.

Acquariums As An Aesthetic Piece

Once people set up an Acquarium, they feel the need to make it look as beautiful as possible.. Plants, rocks and driftwood are used to make it look as attractive as possible. It should be noted that the fish in the tank should be comfortable with the plants. In order to do this, it is best to make a study of the environment of the fish and choose plants accordingly.

It is a great idea to use living plants – the manner in which they float is a pleasure to watch. But there are some herbivorous fish that thrive on living plants,so if that is the case, you should consider using artificial plants instead. There are innumerable varieties available, and they look so real that sometimes it is impossible to tell the difference.

Driftwood is extremely popular for saltwater acquariums. The only trouble is that it is very costly, and so many people go to the beach to get them. If that is the case, ensure that you wash the driftwood thoroughly, and keep it in a quarantine tank instead of the main one – do this for at least 2 weeks, so that you can match the PH levels. Also rocks could be used to hold the driftwood down.

While using rocks, there are some rocks with very sharp ends – this can be harmful to the fish and cut it’s belly which is very tender. The idea is to keep the fish as safe as possible. If you are putting a cluster of rocks together, you will need to glue them with safe silicone, so that they don’t come apart and hurt the fish. Also, soft rocks are not advisable as they break up in the water. The fish need to be safe, so you will need to provide the ambience while keeping in mind that the fish remain comfortable.

Once you have completed acquascaping your saltwater acquarium, maybe you could consider entering an acquascaping contest which would add to your pleasure.

An Interesting Look At The History of The Recruitment Industry

Recruiting began with the military and dates all the way back to ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. The birth of the modern recruiting industry, however, did not take place until the 1940's as a result of WWII. Employment agencies began to advertise for workers who were not obligated to military service in an effort to fill the void in the workplace left by those who were called to duty. The end of the war led to an influx of workers returning from the army, many with new skills that could be applied to the blossoming technology field. Headhunting companies became popular as a response to the growing workforce. Headhunting agencies worked in service of those seeking employment until the strong economy of the 1970s led to a shift from working for the employee to working for the employer. Enjoying a period of relative prosperity and growth, large corporations began outsourcing their hiring efforts to recruiting companies. Because of IRS employment taxes, recruiters only made placements for full time, executive positions.

The headhunting industry continued to operate in this way until labor laws began to change and the line between employee and independent contractors was blurred. In 1986, Congress eliminated safe harbor for certain technical workers, thus affecting the way engineers, drafters, system analysts, designers, computer programmers and other professionals in similar lines of work were classified. The Revenue Act of 1978 had previously permitted employers to appeal reclassification of an employee if the industry had categorized certain types of workers as independent contractors in the past. However, this was changed by the 1986 amendment by preventing employers from appealing reclassification if the employee had been placed by a third party agency.

In response, corporations simply began doing what the IRS had accused them of failing to accomplish in the first place. Large companies began reclassifying all their employees, shifting their status from 10-99s to W-2s. As web and technology based businesses began to blossom with the Internet boom in the 1990's, the path had been cleared for recruiters to place programmers, system analysts, designers, drafters, computer programmers and engineers as well as senior and executive level positions for the hundred of new and thriving companies.

In the 90's, headhunting had begun to spring into new forms and took on a variety of trendy names and specialized strategies such as "synthesized" recruiting, "broadband" staffing, "converged" recruitment strategies as well as something that became known as MARS, or "Multi-disciplinary Advanced Rapid Staffing." At the peak of the Internet boom, companies were desperate for staffing solutions that would help meet the demands of the swelling economy and the seemingly endless supply of wealth.

Unfortunately, the economic downturn has been hard on the recruiting industry. Not only are unemployment rates high, but those companies who are hiring usually make an effort to save money by doing their own staffing and human resource management. One can predict, however, that when the economy begins to get back on its feet, the recruiting business will be in high demand once again.

I just received an email story from a good friend of mine and published author Larry Shaak from Pasqua, Sask. This story is absolutely true and likely a good illustration of the power of unconditional love, and maybe even the power of will to become the best we can be no matter what our life has been up to now. I'll paraphrase to shorten it up.

We know who Al Capone was. He basically owned the city of Chicago. Capone had a lawyer nicknamed 'Easy Eddy', and Capone used him alone simply because he was extremely skillful in the legal arena, and kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.

Capone paid him well, and he lived in a mansion with an estate that covered an entire city block in Chicago. Eddy lived the high life of the mob and always turned a blind eye to the atrocities that went on around him.

Eddy had a son who was his pride and joy and he saw to it that his son had the best of everything; price was no object in this regard. Despite his involvement in organized crime, Eddie tried to teach him right from wrong. He hoped as we all do that his son would turn out better and have everything required for a happy healthy life, and of course hoping his son would never live a life like his.

Eddie began to realize that even with all his wealth and influence, a good name and a good example would not be a legacy he could ever leave for his son. Eddie decided that it was time to rectify some wrongs. He went to the authorities and offered to testify against the mob, knowing the personal cost would be great, but hoping to give some semblance of integrity to his son.

He testified and within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gunfire on a lonely Chicago street. He paid the greatest price for the greatest gift; unselfish unconditional love.

In his pockets the police removed a rosary, a crucifix a religious medallion, and a poem he had clipped from a magazine. The poem read: "The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. Live, love, toil with a will. Place no faith in time. For the clock may soon be still." - Author unknown...

Very touching story and here's another; this one is also as true, as true can be.

Lieutenant commander Butch O'Hare was a navy fighter pilot during WWII and stationed on the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.

One day his entire squadron was sent on a mission. Once airborne Butch realized that he did not have a full tank of fuel on board and he would not have enough to complete the mission and return home.

His flight leader ordered him back to the ship and he reluctantly dropped out of formation and headed back. As he was returning he saw a squadron of Japanese aircraft speeding its way toward the American fleet. Unable to contact the ship or his fellow pilots and bring them back in time, there was only one thing to do; he must somehow divert them from the fleet.

Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes with 50 caliber wing guns blazing. He wove in and out of the surprised Japanese planes and hit as many of them as he could until all his ammunition was finally spent. Undaunted, he continued the assault. He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many as possible, rendering them unfit to fly. Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron turned tail and headed home. Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.

Upon arrival he reported in and related the events surrounding his return. The film from the gun-camera mounted on his plane told the tale. It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet. He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft.

This took place on February 20, 1943, and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of WWII, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Congressional Medal of Honor.

A year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29. His home town would not allow the memory of this WWII hero to fade, and today, O' Hare Airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man. Could you imagine that these two stories could ever be intertwined?

Butch O'Hare was 'Easy Eddy's' son... Oh, the power of love!!! Thanks for the stories Larry, gives me goose bumps...

Weird Science: cinema's 5 worst genetic experiments
Splice is the latest techno-fear movies, playing on a phobia of scientists who mess around with genetics, but it's hardly the first film to show the worst that could happen.

British Gas for Business Users

British gas has a business section that is dedicated to servicing non-domestic users of British gas electricity and gas utilities. The imaginatively named British Gas Business is currently promoting its services as the UK’s most reasonably priced electricity provider.

Their current promotion to British business owners offers a month of free gas for every new non-domestic client who takes on either a new gas or electricity account with British Gas.

British Gas Business has been awarded the Plain English Campaigns coveted Crystal Mark award for their contracts that are jargon free and offer totally readable terms and conditions. Since its inception British Gas Business has signed up 925,000 business clients, and its eye firmly on reaching its one millionth satisfied customers.

What you get from British Gas Business

A real accounts manager who is a Dedicated Account Manager, this means each time you call you are not connected to the first available telephone operator. Instead you be able to speak directly to someone who knows who you are, and is familiar with your business.

British Gas Business pricing structure is very competitive; it is also a household name and British institution. Their clear and understandable contracts carry a fixed price, for a fixed term, so you can calculate your energy cost projections accurately.

You also have unlimited access to energy efficiency advice to help cut wastage and costs as well as moving towards a ‘greener’ workplace. If you move to a new location the contract is ‘portable’ so there are no hidden fees.

You can easily manage you gas or electricity accounts on your own PC for billing, usage and other information. British Gas Business offers easy payments with bank direct debits, and don’t forget that one months free gas offer.

Making the switch

Most business people don’t have thirty minutes to spare while the Indian call centre operator finds time in her busy schedule to talk to them. British Gas Business has professional customer service with a highly trained and helpful team of professionals waiting to assist clients.

Ginsu International Traditions 14-Piece Knife Set with Block, Natural ReviewsMany associate Ginsu knives with the product's kitschy infomercial from the ‘70s that begins with a karate kick to a watermelon and proceeds with a demo of these knives cutting through just about anything in the house. The USMC t shirts are a salute to the bravery and strength of the Marine Corps and a slight use of imagination in believing that we are one of the Corps when we don the t-shirt. Types of design The USMC t shirts come in a variety of types. The Sniper, Anti-terror school, and Vintage are the designs available apart...
