Overview:

  • The Akiles CBM650 modular comb opener was is designed to allow users with a modular binding punch to quickly and easily insert their punched pages onto plastic comb binding spines.
  • Designed by Akiles to work with the Versamac modular binding punch, this comb opener can be used with virtually any modular punching system and can even be used to increase productivity with smaller manual and electric comb binding systems.
  • The CBM650 is similar to other modular comb openers by GBC, Rhin-O-Tuff, Tamerica and Renz. However it includes several features that are not commonly found on other comb openers.

Strengths / Features:

  • The Akiles CBM 650 is the only plastic comb opener available on the market with a detachable handle that can be installed on either the left or right side of the machine. This makes this unit an ideal choice for left handed users and for organizations with multiple users.
  • This modular comb opener is designed for use with plastic combs up to 24 rings in length. This means that it can be used to bind books that are legal size (14 inches), letter size (11 inches), A4 size (11.7 inches) and smaller half size documents.
  • The CBM-650 is made of heavy duty metal for lasting operation. It is mounted to a high quality stand that offers a comb sizing guide. The metal teeth on this machine are heavy duty and are long enough for use with both small round shaped plastic combs and larger oval shaped combs.
  • The comb opening mechanism on the CBM650 seems to be both heavy duty and designed well. It is important when looking for a plastic comb opener that the comb stays open and does not slip when you are inserting your pages. On some comb openers this can be a problem when binding documents with larger combs. This machine did not slip when binding documents with either small or large sized combs.
  • The price point on this machine is excellent. In fact, it is one of the most affordable comb opening machines available on the market.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

  • One of the few potential weaknesses of this machine is that the handle used to open the combs is relatively small and is tilted back when the opener is in the closed position. This small handle can take a little bit getting used to but after a while it seemed relatively easy to use.
  • The CBM650 has long open slots on the top of the machine. Over time it is possible for paper dust, and chads to build fall into these slots and to build up on the mechanism inside the machine. It is a good idea to take the machine and periodically blow it out with an air compressor. However, over time it still may be necessary to take the machine apart to clean it especially in production environments.
  • The Akiles CBM650 will easily sit on a table, counter or on the top of your machine. However, many other comb openers have a larger footprint than this model providing more stability during the comb opening process. It didn't seem tipsy during testing. However, it was not as stable or heavy as other comb openers that we have tested. This may be a weakness for some users and a potential strength for other users.

Recommendation:

  • The excellent price point and the ambidextrous design of the Akiles CBM650 make it a definite winner.
  • This machine is an excellent choice for use with a modular binding punch such as the GBC Magnapunch, Akiles Versamac or any of the Rhin-O-Tuff binding punches that are available on the market.
  • It can even be used along with smaller desktop comb binding systems to increase productivity by forming an assembly line with one user punching and another inserting pages onto the binding combs.

Sanford And Son (Season 4) DVD Review

Nominated for 7 Emmys and 6 Golden Glboes, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Sanford And Son remained one of the top ten rated TV shows every season it aired with the exception of its final season (when it ranked a respectable 27th). Fred loves to hurl sarcastic comments at his sister-in-law Esther, and he often makes stereotypical and prejudice remarks toward Lamont's friend Julio. Manipulating his otherwise ambitious son into staying around to run the junk shop, Fred spends days hanging around the house (he runs a home-based business) and talking with various friends: Melvin, Grady, and Bubba...

The Sanford And Son (Season 4) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "The Surprise Party" in which Fred returns home following an extended stay in St. Louis (i.e. contract negotiations with the network). Modified biosensors improve early cancer diagnosis
Imec has found a way to improve the biosensors used for the early diagnosis of cancer using nanotechnology.

Let's face it as a society we really don't take the idea of women and heart disease all that seriously. After all isn't a heart attack or stroke only something men have to worry about? Doesn't estrogen protect women from this silent killer? Isn't cancer a bigger threat to women than heart disease? All of these question seem logical but the fact of the matter is none of them are true. The truth about women and heart disease or stroke is that in America twice as many women die of these two cardiovascular disorders than from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.

So identifying the possible factors that increase the chances of a women having a heart attack or stroke should to be identified, and either modified or eliminated. Let's take a few minutes to run through five risk factors that can be modified, treated or managed wit h lifestyle modification and/or medication if needed.

When it comes to women and heart disease smoking is not cool.

While you can't change your family history, gender, the aging process, or a previous history of heart attack or stroke you can certainly say no to tobacco. Women who smoke, or for that matter inhale large amounts of second hand smoke, are at increased risk for ischemic stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Studies show birth control pills only make matters worse, increasing a smokers risk of cardiovascular disease substantially.

High blood cholesterol is not good for your heart.

Up until the age of 55 women have some natural protection against arterial plaque deposits but after that it is all downhill, with men and women having virtually identical chances of dying of a heart attack by the age of 62. High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) raise the risk of heart attack. High levels of good cholesterol (HDL) lower the risk of heart disease. Research seems to suggest that low levels of good cholesterol seems to a stronger risk factor in women than men.

Be aware to the risks of high blood pressure

High blood pressure in women increases their chances of having a heart attack. But perhaps more importantly it is the most important risk factor for stroke. Obesity, a family history of high blood pressure, pregnancy, and certain types of birth control pills are the biggest threats to a woman developing high blood pressure. It is also important to point out that African American women are the highest risk demographic.

Inactivity will literally kill you.

Heart disease is twice as likely to occur in those who are inactive than those who stay active. Being inactive can also lead to weight gain which in turn leads to high blood cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, diabetes, and an increased risk of heart attack. A recent study showed that 38 percent of heart attack victims were inactive or underactive.

Obesity and being overweight were great in 16 century.

Yes, what a difference a few centuries can make! Today we know that having too much fat, especially when is causes an expanding waistline, puts a women at risk for many health problems including high cholesterol, high triglycerides, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

In summary, women and heart disease and stoke is a serious problem but by taking steps to stay active, consuming a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and saying no to tobacco you can greatly reduce your chances of become a heart attack or stroke victim. Additionally, many women have found that by adding a natural cholesterol reduction supplement to the three steps above they have been able to decrease certain risk factors even further.

No wonder, dog owners, and not just German shepherd dogs, seem to just come in and out of vet's offices for physical discomforts like itching, dandruff, face rubbing, etc.

These are just some pointers to note before choosing a German shepherd pup. Sometimes, it takes just more than just a choice to raise a German shepherd dog. It takes knowledge and preparation for you and your family. These dogs, after all, will be part of your family as soon as they step in your doorway.

Relax and enjoy life with your family, your home theater system may do a lot of good for you.
