To day December 13, 2007 former Senator Mitchell of Maine released and made public his extensive and far reaching report on the state of baseball the game, the players, professional baseball, baseball players union and et al.

Black Eyed Baseball you betcha. Has not the best of our boxing champs not taken a blow which put them to canvas? Did the real champions stay down? Never happen they got up, let the referee brush off those pugilist gloves on his clean white shirt, and waited for the throw down of his arm signalling it's "OK let's go."

Did the sinking of the Titanic say to the world never again will large over sized sea going vessels take to the seas?

Never never in a thousand years so the things worth their salt slink into the shadows and give up the good which can be achieved. Baseball stands at a crossroads of history as the forerunner of every game of sport which is so cherished from the toddler to the old codger with a cane. A Black circle around both eyes and a world making believe it is in shock, when if honest appraisal one on one were recorded, we knew all was not well for the "The Mighty Casey had struck out."

Did Grand ole England not see some dark hours during the blitz of World War II? Did not the Brits and the Dough boys rally around the flag and bring new life and new meaning to grit and can do? In a word "Indeed."

OK baseball and all for which the game stands it is that time to stand tall take the licking but for gosh sakes keep on ticking.

Every sister sport around the globe shares in what has now been revealed as a scourge of shame and proves the driving need and obsession for competitive one ups- man- ship. The incessant drive to provide the winning edge from an individual point of perspective to the total team or institution perspective has come full grown.

Black Eyed Baseball does not stand alone in this uncovered revelation. I knew it and you knew it but we still stood four square in the cheering section demanding excellence far superior to natural limitations.

Where does this painted pony carry us? First things first we need Leadership in the form of sensible control of the "Money Pile." If there be any one anywhere who thinks the athletes be it any sport should be showered with insensible salaries and paid as forced indentured servants to perform beyond their natural abilities then shame, shame, shame.

Will the sun rise tomorrow? Most probably. Will indiscretions occur in the future? I believe the answer is obvious. Today Black Eyed Baseball what about our ability to curb our run away appetite for overpaid heroes and a frenzied media clamoring for blood, wins or the Kings head?

My hat is off to one player and I will use a name. If the press reported it accurately the Cy Young winner reportedly let management know up front he had a desire to stay and play and to pay what was considered fair.

Dotting the i.i.i. and crossing the ts.ts.ts I may not have verbatim correct but the principle is what is worth noting.
