I don't play the number-plate game, on long journeys I like to imagine the lives of the people on the road and guess their journey. The exterior of a car says a lot about the driver. I for one pass instant judgment on Audi drivers with more than one exhaust pipe. If there is even a hint of a subwoofer or spinning alloys then I know that the guy inside is about 17-24 years old or has a bit of a complex. The impression you give with the exterior of your car can be extremely transparent. But we all know this, it is easy to put on a front and fake your true identity.
No, the truest indication of character is in the car's interior. My organised friend always has sweet smelling car deodorant; my arty friend always has some bizarre object on the back seat; my grandparents always kept a blanket for long trips. But the best test of whether a person truly values and takes care of their car is in the state of their car mats. Yes, it might sound peculiar, but it's the detail which separates the wheat from the chaff.
